Alien Slashing

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):Dis-allow aliens slashing entirely except for certain conditions.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):Less aliens getting slash happy and lel slashing hands/feet/stabbing hands/feet off. Making aliens ACTUALLY INFECT like they are supposed to instead of being an annoying POS.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):Dis-allow the Queen from setting harm past ONLY WHEN NEEDED(Which does...very minimal damage) or past DIS-ALLOWED for an hour or if Marines out-number Aliens greatly/Aliens have a high casualty count. I am sick and tired of aliens being to shitty to infect when inevitably causes them to whine until they can kill the marines rather than INFECT THEM LIKE THEY ARE MEANT TO. Or, the Queen just being shitty in general and allowing full harm from the get go. This CRIPPLES THE ALIENS MORE THAN THE MARINES, and simply pisses the marines off. Aliens shouldn't be targeting hands, legs? Sure. Hands? That's honestly stupid. Aliens didn't used to slash hands until Alpha hit. Literally never did I see an alien chop hands. Legs? Yeah.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):Coding of some kind.

The queen controls if aliens can slash or not.

And no, this shit does not need to be more complicated to give the marines an unneeded edge. Start strategizing.

No. It is not needed. It is the choice of the queen whether they want to win or lose.

You people..honestly don't see the meaning behind this thread do you? It's not the fact of 'The Queen wanting everyone to die'. It's the fact of how aliens are /meant/ to be played and the fact that, instead of infecting the one solo marine, the aliens are to shit/have already whined for harming to be allowed and simply cut their hands to shit/kill them instead of hugging them. This is honestly bullshit, and lots of people not just me have an issue with it.

Yes, in the least.

If Slashing isn't permitted Alien's will lose, the distance to travel back for facehuggers is too great for them to individually infect every host.
On Nostro you had the vent system which made transportation of infected easy and grabbing huggers... no longer the case for Xeno's. You cannot infect 100 Marine's every round, it's simply impossible on this map.


Also, setting it to "Only when needed" causes more Xeno death's because they don't understand that they are only doing half damage and it causes more confusion than anything. This isn't even accounting for the new weapon's and abilities the human's have that limit Xeno's abilities.

I think the queen should retain full rights to choosing when and how much slashing should be done, so -1 from me.

However, you raise a good point in the fact that the aliens are often very quick to go to killing. I would suggest modifying the text for the slashing permitted message to state that it should only be used as a last resort unless the Queen specifically says otherwise. e.g. "Slashing is permitted, remember to use this sparingly and attempt to capture hosts where possible unless the Queen has stated otherwise."

It's a game. It's meant to be fun. If you want aliens loosing all the time because they can't kill anyone and need to infect them and then die horribly, because they have 20 marines in their hive. Why not. But I bet, aliens are going to loose more often if harming wasn't allowed. Right now it's pretty balanced.

If you want to play Alien's the way their mean't to be played then most Marine's would be killed.
Lore/Book/Comic/Movie's most HOSTILE Human's are killed by the alien's, usually the one's using weapon's... the one's captured are often easily dispatched human's with no weapons.

New suggsestion marines have to capture and study aliens, it's bullshit how they insta shoot. Commander should have ability to limit it O.o

I just want to mention on Alpha the number of starting xenos is around 10-20, and the number of starting marines is 50+

its like pokemon you weaken the enemy before capture

Correct me if I am wrong... Your plan was to disable being able to slash infected marines, because right now. I have no clue what the people in comments are talking about. However, I agree with you. Aliens SHOULD be infecting, not kamikaze slashing. Slashing a horde of marines isn't going to help your cause.

May I remind everyone that the aliens' job is to grow the hive.

The objective is to grow and protect the hive and protection come's before growth. You naturally have to protect your current population and establishment before you can properly grow.

Alpha is different from Nostro simply because it actually promote's the Alien's to kill more than the previous one. This is evident by a few obvious factor's that didn't effect Nostro previous.

1. Server Population - 120ish Marine's per round.
2. Map Size
3. De-Limbing/Advanced Health System
4. Predator's
5. Infection/Chest Bursting Time
6. New Marine Gear/Abilitie's
7. Consistent FOB - Quick Medical, Supplies & Reinforcement's
8. Long Travel time back to Hive's
9. Multiple directional Assault (No longer one way hallway pushes into Xenobiology)
10. No quick vent system.
11. Constant Marine reinforcement's (New arrival's due to population)
12. Marine QUICK Deployment due to Auto-Squad assignment's

Most of the reason's above are new feature's to Alpha that actually require the Alien's to slash and kill. Previously you had a much smaller and tight corner map which promoted easy and fast infection. On Nostro you could infect a Marine, grab/pull him behind a corner and he done for... In Alpha you have to drag him in a open Map across a battlefield while potentially running into MORE marine's. You no longer have the luxury of tight corner's for hugger infection's or the small distance to run back for additional huggers as easily as before

Yes, the Xeno's should focus on infection AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. However, it's obvious that prioritizing infection above self defense on a OPEN MAP with an enemy that OUTNUMBER'S you greatly AND benefit's from the open terrain is impossible. As previously stated, you have to weaken the enemy before you can properly capture them as there is no way you'd ever infect 100 Marine's a round.

If the Queen does not permit Slashing/Killing during the round's, Xeno's will in fact lose due to being unable to properly deal with the horde of Marine's facing them.

This should totally be up to the Queen, and not how it is "meant" to be played, and dictating how people should play a soberany role is bad. Many rounds were lost for xenos because they did not take caution while slashing, running out of hosts and dying for having small numbers. A smart Queen wouldn't allow slashing at the first contact with marines.
Another problem is that infecting large number of marines is risky, they do not get the blackout anymore and can damage the hive greatly,as many of the xenos will be assigned to the frontlines to repel the waves and more waves of marines, and very few to watch over the captured ones.

The aliens can be outnumbered ten to one, they need to weaken the marines and wear them down so they can capture them more easily.

Even when the aliens outnumber the marines they continue to slash. And I agree when someone's infected harming them should be impossible, as of right now aliens infect and then like break their legs or something which is really bad as far as alien rp goes. And let's not protect you have to slash to capture marines, I have been alone against 4 aliens only to get slashed to bits after being hugged because as they said over alien chat after I died "let's go kill happy aliens!".

That is some shitty attitude, harm mode should be only active when the nest or queen is directly threatened, not when some idiot runner kamikazes into a marine squad after begging the queen for harm over the last 15 minutes. Because that's what I see, it's not usually the queens call it is mostly just aliens begging to be able to harm marines so they can win/have fun and the queen gives in to shut them up.

So basically we are fucked if all infected who haven't bursted start to kill alien and destroy hive, since we can't harm them disarm only put you on ground for 3 to 4 sec and you can't stun them again.

Sorry but only way to stop tedious marines from running away after infected is to slash their hands or legs until they are useless bags for one time reproduction(that came out really nasty).

theres also the situation where you're near the marine ship without a hugger and you see a lone marine
when the nearest facehugger is like a 4 minute trip and you can't be sure the marine will still be there, you naturally want to not let them get away scott free, so they slash

On Nostro I could down a Marine with a hugger, leave him by the vent, jump into the vent and come back with two more huggers to take down whoever was helping him.
You could infect marine's multiple marine's within about 15 second's of eachother.
