Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): A mechanic integrated into the Job preferences menu that gives you the option of what to do if your priority jobs are taken 1. Return to menu (Pulling you back to the lobby and allowing you to join as whatever is left) 2. Select random job (Pretty much what it normally does)

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Keep people from being put into jobs they don't want to be in / Lower the rates of instant suicide by players when they're assigned to jobs they didn't want

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): I think I described it fine up above

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): No clue, I'm not a codey-lady. I know Aurora has it at-least, and since their code is open-source it could nabbed relatively easily.


I thought of porting this over after one too many times of being thrown in as a Squad marine when I have no desire to be one.

+1. Well proposed and might help a lot, also good that code in question can hopefully be nibbed easily.

+1. RO Medium, Specialist Medium, Squad Engineer Medium. All taken, and I got Liason job. And I didn't want it. Why this thing isn't implemented from the beginning?

It's not just an Aurora thing, every server I've gone to has had this. It only tends to be worth it when you set one job to High and leave the rest unassigned. As in, 'I only want to play this role and would rather not play than have to play a different one'. The people who insta-suicide are those either hoping to get round-start Alien, or didn't set their preferences right.

Unless we still have the same problem that Classic had, when people who had LO set to 'Never' would still regularly get assigned as LO when no-one else started as one. God, LO's had the highest suicide rates.

I'm of the opinion that the players who suicide instantly should just be banned for a duration, but I like this idea.

I don't disagree for people who are just looking to re-pick a job. But currently there is not a good way to start xeno. If Marines aren't forced to play xeno, xenos should not be forced to play marine.

This would be a really nice little idea to add in, if possible.

I presume it would work like this:

1)Ready up with your priority jobs on, for instance Doctor and Squad Engineer.
2)Game starts but the jobs you want are taken so a pop up window opens stating "Your priority Job(s) has (have) been taken. Would you like to choose from the current available list of jobs yes or no?"
If yes, then bring up the late joiner job menu.
If no, then revert the player back to the main screen.

No Penguin. It just doesn't put you in the game, nothing appears if your job is taken.
