Synthetics
Before I actually post stuff about the suggestion, yes I know there are other suggestions for this, mine simply has a different way of implementation.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Synthetics, an artificial race of robots that look like people
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Would allow for a larger variety of backgrounds in characters.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): A new race, similar to old Bay-12 IPCs, but different in that they could eat/drink, and look completely Human, they also bleed white (Circulation fluid) which is NOT similar to blood, and so they couldn't bleed out.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): If you're familiar with Aurora, Aurora has made a modification of the standard BS-12 IPC called "Shells" which are essentially IPCs with synth-skin/scales/fur attached. You really can't tell them apart from Humans unless they're crazy colors. I think the simplest way to implement Synthetics would be to nab this code (Easily done, it's open-source), make it so they can bleed circulation fluid, make it so they can eat, and tweak pain/damage resistance, etc. I realize it's still a lot of work, but it'd likely be less work than starting off from scratch.

Re: Synthetics
I hear, I HEAR there's talk about Working Joes for Sulaco workers sort of androids that may play the role of maintenance drones. I don't know the details or if there's any validity to these rumors, but there you go! I do know there's currently spriting being done for them.

Re: Synthetics
I long for a match where its just a bunch of survivors against xenomorphs and a potentially pseudo-antagonistic (or benevolent) AI with a plethora of working joes/synths.Tetsip wrote:I hear, I HEAR there's talk about Working Joes for Sulaco workers sort of androids that may play the role of maintenance drones. But yes +1 for the idea.

Re: Synthetics
I've been all for synthetics so long as...
They're non-combat, and don't count as a marine for the end round, so the aliens don't need to attack them.
Can do almost anything a human can (Besides attack a xenomorph)
And that xenomorphs can't attack them.

Oh yes please, that will take us one step closer to my Alien Isolation gamemode suggestion.Tetsip wrote:I hear, I HEAR there's talk about Working Joes for Sulaco workers sort of androids that may play the role of maintenance drones. +1
Non-combat synthetics like MT or Sulaco Doctors, not Commanding Officers. I'm not sure what about bridge officer.

I think, all non-combatant, non-command roles. Sulaco Medics, Maintence Techs, Cargo Techs, Researcher, Corporate Liason.UnknownMurder wrote:+1

Re: Synthetics
I've literally been talking to some coders and iconners about implementing this. In keeping TRUE TO THE LORE (for you lore facists out there) I'm trying to make them only visible to aliens when they are ACTUALLY IN LINE OF SIGHT, Put them in NON COMBAT ROLES and make them unable to use guns and Trying to get them their own health system. My coder friends are usually busy. But this all would fit into a proper LORE CORRECT synthetic program. If you want me to elaborate on some of my reasoning, by all means, I've planned to lobby for this.

Re: Synthetics
This is great, It'd enhance RP and everything that's already been said in the other posts, +1
I'd also like to see W-Y Combat Synths for PMC mode, or other events. They could be normal synths made from this, but with armored bodys and light amplification built in so they don't need flashlights.

Re: Synthetics
I'd +1 it to a working joe class, Where their instructions are to perform maintenance. They are forbidden to interact with Xenomorphs and vice versa because, of course, Weyland Utani.
They should ignore marines unless engaged.

Or the marines are in a restricted area.Evilkyle24 wrote:I'd +1 it to a working joe class, Where their instructions are to perform maintenance. They are forbidden to interact with Xenomorphs and vice versa because, of course, Weyland Utani.

Also, +1 for reasons stated before, whould love to see it.

Re: Synthetics
You could argue that the Working Joes were shipped in due to budget constraints and that they are only here on temporary assignment, would avoid the mess of balancing a synthetic which, by lore accounts, is mostly ignored by Aliens.

Re: Synthetics
So they'd basically be Sulaco's version of Baystation 12 maintenance drones.

Re: Synthetics
Essentially yeah.
Problem with normal Synethics is that they would be very powerful, the only circumstances a xeno attacks one is either if its armed or when a xeno is under extreme duress (see Queen attacking Bishop after losing her entire hive). That could lead to situations with a Bishop walking into a hive to recon it.
If Working Joes are went with perhaps throw a broken normal Synth in RnD for the Scientists to try and fix, perhaps leave a few components on the surface that are needed.

So i say make it working joes or another cheap knock-off.
