The historical role of the Janitor was that it was originally considered a 'demotion' or 'punishment' role, but it was such a popular role that was well liked that it was just eventually made a normal job.
I think a proper Janitor job would do well. For the duel reasons of not only Janitors having a lot of work to do (blood and gore everywhere) but also that it would be a nice nod to the base SS13 in its Janitor role.

Re: Bring back Janitor role
Implement custom code that handcuffs the mop and bucket to a hand and shackle shoes to the janitor cart.
Brig-ees must mop the floors indefinately.

Works for me.Lostmixup wrote:I think we should move janitor away from a "demotion" job and instead make it its own role. On the flip side, we should make "janitor's assistant" the demotion role; it'll have way less access and will be under the janitor. This way people who want to play janitor can, and people who are stupid can still be demoted.
I think what we can take away from this is:
Some people (me included) really like playing the Janitor role
It can be worked into a game related and appropriate mechanic
It'll give the MP's someone to interact with as the ship turns to rack and ruin, and the poor Jannie is run off his feet

Yea, we do need a little more crew on the sulaco if the MP's don't get changed soon.

Re: Bring back Janitor role
Ok, FINAL THING ON JANITORS:
No, for the moment.
Beyond the fact that, it's a job "marines" would be doing, or everyone would be contributing too, adding a janiborg, janibots, or even a janitor will cause lagspikes (worse that we currently have).
The thing is, janiborgs constantly run the del() proc, same with Janibots. This causes game lag, not connection or anything else, but literally del process overload beyond. Janitors, are a little less problematic, but can still result in HUGE lagspikes.
However, I am not unsympathetic, and I suppose, we can give the Maintenance Techs access to janitorial supplies, and they can function as janitors if they want. I'll see about the changes.
However, they would NOT be allowed down on the planet. Their job, would be sulaco-side only.

Re: Bring back Janitor role
+1 I am so tired of walking through the Sulaco and seeing bullet casings, blood everywhere, broken glass, garbage from marines eating like pigs, random armor thrown around, empty guns just tossed aside, and in some case... corpses. Janitor in no way shape or form breaks immersion further than the massive pig sty that the Sulaco becomes mid-end game. Having a Janitor will also indefinitely help with lag, Abby herself said that bullet casings are one of the larger things producing it.
Janitor needs to not be thought of as a "Demotion" role, it should be thought of as just another common Sulaco staff. I don't see it being too difficult to give the Janitor a small designated cleaning closet in all that wasted space on the lower-floor east-end of the Sulaco.
If people are so afraid of a Janitor breaking immersion by going planet-side ect.. It can just be made a rule similar to other Sulaco staff not being allowed to leave. As with any other thing people are hesitant of it could be tested for a few days and if completely absolutely horrible, it could be removed again.

What Did I say?
If it's bad, maintence technicians will get access to some basic janitorial equipment.
But that's it. NO JANITOR JOB.

Re: Bring back Janitor role
One maint tech, will now spawn in the area with the janitor supplies, since obviously the Maint tech aren't smart enough to find it on their own.
