Flare Pouch
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): flares would vend from machines in boxes of 5-7 as opposed to vending individually.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): marines would have greater access to bulk supplies of flares and carrying those flares with them would be infinitely easier
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): marines can go through flares like crazy so its abit strange that by default we have to carry them one by one in backpacks and so on, you can use the cardboard in the mess hall to make boxes for them but some asshat always uses it all to make pizza boxes or cardboard armor, in the movies however the marines had fucktons of these things, i mean how many of you actually remember that movie? i've owned PENS that were larger then these fucking things, compared to real life flares they were tiny as shit!
what im suggesting is we add a container item just for the flares to make it easier to store them in our armor, backpacks and belts, it would make it easier for us to carry a shit ton of them, i mean its not like im suggesting we have fucktons of hand grenades here, on a gameplay mechanic or gameplay balance level will the ability to throw alot of these things REALLY screw the teams? if you want us to use flashlights less or leave the safety of our barricades less then we need to have more flares and bringing them with us needs to be way easier.
its not like we'd be breaking away from the lore anyways. http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/M-94_Marking_Flare
the wiki says that those pouches only contained 5 apiece but i remember there being like 12 in the film
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): this would only need a pouch for the flares to be sprited (similar to the pouch of syringes medbay has i imagine) and then vending machines would need to be able to vend these pouches (either empty, or full of flares already), then marines would just throw it into their packs, belts, armor or vests and when they needed to start tossing flares they'd just take it out and start throwing as many flares as they NEED to.

+1 Lore friendly, helpful and no more marines filling backpacks with flares.

Re: Flare Pouch
+1, but if it is implemented, flares should expire in like 3-5 minutes instead of whatever they do know (think its like 7-10, not sure.) Maybe a slight reduction to the light they give out, too, but still more than just flashlights.

Re: Flare Pouch
+1, I reckon this could be useful.
Maybe the kind of thing that affixes to a marine's jumpsuit, like the webbing or the holsters? Else, just in the backpack.
Could go either way on whether they come pre-stocked with flares, though I guess that's fair enough.

+1. Also. Why the need to nerf flares? Just leave them as-is, they're going to get stolen anyway.

I normally took a box with me with flares in it...
I think, instead of "Box has 7 open slots for 7 items." If it's possible to have "Box has 10 units of free space in total." And flares would take up like .5 units, pistols 1 unit, SMG's 3 units, magnums 2 units, that kind of thing. Shotgun shells would be .1 probably.
But that would take a rewrite of a bunch of code I think, so...

+1, except I'd like to see it in form of a bag (that fits in your belt slot) with 15-40 flares in it. More efficient than regular belts and encourages teamwork.

Re: Flare Pouch
Maybe, a "flare box" would be doable...
Or perhaps a box of "chemlights" instead of flares?

Re: Flare Pouch
Well, wouldn't chemlights basically act like flashlights? The drawback of flares is that, while they are brighter than flashlights, they burn out after X amount of time. I think a flare box would be a better idea.

Re: Flare Pouch
Flares, chemlights, as long as they'll expire within 10 minutes so they're not TOO good. Otherwise marines would each have 7-10 flares per pouch, and can carry multiple pouches, and then there'd be around 20 marines... And as a result, enough flares to light up the FOB indefinitely without ever turning the power on.
So with increased availability, maybe a nerf for the duration of time is indeed called for. I'm unsure. I mean, we COULD limit it so that only the SL and Specialist and the Medics and Engineers have access to the flare pouches, but... I'm not sure if I like that idea as much.

Re: Flare Pouch
The code is already there in the military belts somehow. Frag grenades take up no extra space when put in the armor or webbing slots, but if in a military belt they count as 'two mags' in size I've learned. TG not-too-long ago did similiar with their backpacks too, meaning you could put +8 items, if some were small objects such as tools, meaning they thus took up less room.Wickedtemp wrote:+1

Re: Flare Pouch
Chemlights, would have like, Illumination 2 (opposed to 7 for flares) and have unlimited fuel.
Also, Frag Grenades take up a count of "1" in military belts. But remember, I expanded belt sizes.

Options are always desirable. A smaller light source that can be carried in greater bulk is worth having.

Re: Flare Pouch
Apophis, what does an illumination of 2 mean? The light extends 2 tiles as opposed to 7? I think chemlights actually sound cooler than flares, especially if they cast off a colored glow, but if they don't offer much light i'm not sure how useful they might be.

Re: Flare Pouch
I think chemlights could have great use as a directional marker.
As for the flare pouch, what if it was like a jumpsuit accessory like webbing? That way marines could request that from the RO and carry a buttload of flares for their team.
