Medic Access to MedSci Channel
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Allow squad medics access to the MedSci channel.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Less disconnect between doctors and medics. Both sides would be able to exchange crucial information without the need to ask an SL or command to relay a message.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Medics would be able to keep doctors aboard the Sulaco up to date with the situation on the ground. For example, this would prevent the doctors' first notification of the alien parasite being a marine running into medbay screaming about the worm in his stomach. Doctors would be able to provide advice to new medics who don't always know the best course of action. Medics would be able to request specific supplies from medbay depending on the current situation. Medics would also be able to warn a doctor that a patient in critical condition is aboard the shuttle and avoid unconscious patients never being moved to medbay.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Not much I can add here. I'd assume this would involve either adding the channel to existing headsets or creating new headsets with both squad and medical access.

+1, Medics are basically doctors so they should be able to communicate with the real doctors on the Sulaco. Medics can explain the infection process also. More immurshion!

Honestly, a -1 for myself. Why? Encryption keys. The spare Medical headsets, or in the off chance you get lucky, CMO headsets (of which there are three, since CMO bumrushes a Command headset), are very easy to access as a Squad Medic, and you can simply remove the encryption keys and swap them around in other headsets. I don't see Developers being willing to take the time to make four new headset variants that'll only be placed in the Medical lockers.

Instead of coding four more headsets, they could just put the encryption keys in the lockers.Dragon2323 wrote:Honestly, a -1 for myself. Why? Encryption keys. If coding access directly into the headsets is too time consuming for the benefits, this would definitely be a good alternative in my opinion.monkeysfist101 wrote: Instead of coding four more headsets, they could just put the encryption keys in the lockers.

Re: Medic Access to MedSci Channel
+1, this would help elaborate on the relationship and communication between Doctors and Squad Medics. This could be used for a number of reasons such as sharing knowledge, letting them know an injured is on the way, what type of injuries they're sustaining and what type of meds the doctors should prepare, etc.. It has RP and better game-play potential. The only problem I see with it would be the coding, but if that wouldn't be too difficult to do (I have no idea how coding works), then it would make a nice implementation into the game.

+1, some people might have no idea about keys/no time to swap 'em. Adds to coordination, too.

+1 Command rarely if ever updates the MedSci channel and it would hopefully help coordinate medivacs better if medics could communicate stuff about the patients.

Not sure if it would be against the rules, but it would be neat to have a guided surgery over the radio with the surgeon walking the medic through the steps.

Neutral. Why?
Yes, I would love to see medics and doctors communicating... But! Medics are not Doctors as people says they are. Medics are just Squad Medic whom stabilizes. Doctors are more advanced, I do not mean by "Doctors are Supreme Race, obey them." I mean as in, Doctors has more education to do more stuff as rule/reality applies. However, if this gets added, I would love to see engineers being able access Engineering Radio because same reasons you say above and support it being added. Nonetheless, I sort of expect the marines and Sulaco staffs to respect each other.

That's not a bad idea. I can just toss an encryption key into the squad medic area.

Re: Medic Access to MedSci Channel
The way I see it, Squad medics are extentions of MedSci on the planet so it is their job to report cases as they crop up to Medical because going through the SL, then to the Overwatch Officer, then to the ExO or CO, THEN to MedSci is disgusting. I don't like games of telephone soo... +1.UnknownMurder wrote:Neutral. Why?

I play doctor on the sulaco, and knowing what condition the incoming wounded are in, what kind of wounds they have, or even how many there are, would be far more useful than the infomation we curently get.

Re: Medic Access to MedSci Channel
Really, if you don't know the incoming condition of wounded you need a new CMO, because the CMO has a computer giving them details on every single marine, including damage levels and location.

Re: Medic Access to MedSci Channel
The CMO is not always at his/her crew monitoring computer though, and 80% of the time won't update the doctors if there is a wounded on the shuttle. Medics could share their knowledge of any injured coming up or prompt the CMO to send the shuttle if Command is unresponsive, and also ask for information on how to handle any wounded, etc etc. That's at least how I see how it'll be used.

Re: Medic Access to MedSci Channel
Well some of those cases you have to take into consideration that the CMO may be understaffed, so there's times where he/she is kept occupied by patients to cloning that are coming in often around rush hour times. Not to mention some rounds I've noticed involved a lot of headless marines requiring head reattachment before surgery. Although they still show up on crew monitoring, there's only so much one can do on of chaos. Now they could have the researcher on cloning to some triage and scanning, doctors taking surgery patients whilst they work also if not doing surgery and on rarer cases request some field medic to assist with triage duty till things calm down enough.
Although that's getting off track somewhat for this topic. It's always nice to leave the option there for marine medics to talk with doctors though for medical advise on patients requiring more urgent care or medical evacuating due to how dire their state is. I.E. Ruptured lung marine whom you managed to temporally stabilize by use of inapprovaline to slow suffocation damage, on top of a stasis bag to keep them alive for transition up. They may even able to request medical pills/liquid filled bottles up to having some spare medical supplies prepared for them either by drop-ship or dropping off to the RO for field supply drops, based upon what type of damages you've been noticing whilst sharing some infomation around.

Anyway, accepting this, I'll adjust the map to put some medical net chips into the squad medic area.
