Motion Trackers

Post by Outboarduniform » 07 Dec 2015, 21:24

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): re-adding the motion trackers from pre=alpha nostromo colonial marines

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
makes it more suspenseful (if you find one as a survivor) and aids in combat , (when a marine).

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
just add the motion tracker from pre-alpha colonial marines.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
add the motion tracker from pre-alpha colonial marines. it'll probably need to be nerfed , since marines can defend their autism castles better with it

I thought they were removed because they lagged the server to high hell.

I would like to have one of these late game. Once the marines have killed all but a couple, hunting them with a motion tracker would be easier. But if they lag, then I can see why they wouldnt be used.

a major problem with them was their range and large amount of false positives. and sometimes they flat out didnt work.

They actually used to pick up on Donator Armor, that was a hassle...

Motion trackers added so much to the game, but it was at a high cost.
They need to be coded to be more efficient.

I'm not a dev, and don't speak for for them, but even i could tell you that it was way too much trouble and work worth the effort. Now with that said, I personally would like them to make a come back, but the simple fact that it was scrapped all together, speaks a lot about the level of difficulty when they tried implementing it. And as I stated earlier, when it was in the game, it either gave you false readings, has very bad range, or refused to work even when an enemy was right in front of you.

That being said, I did actually really enjoy them. Some squads would assign a standard to be the motion-tracker operator. I have some pretty fond memories of hearing pings coming from the device and the operator frantically yelling out the directions the aliens were coming from.

As flawed as they were at times, I think they added a lot to the atmosphere of the game.

It's on my list of things to look into.

Kind of in the middle, it can be solved by having it only scan one area the marine is facing. That rids of the lag

Resolved to be revisited later. I think I know of a way to do this now.
