What about a group of elite Colonial Marines nicknamed the "Golden Eagles"? It'd basically allow for the rah rah USA counterpart to the Russian Bears to be represented in the ERT. Having an ERT guaranteed to be helpful to the marines would probably need some balancing for the distress beacon anyway.

That actually sounds like a good idea, not a merc group but a spec ops group specialized in recon with different gear.

Only if Xenos get a serious ERT too and not "4 sentinels without facehuggers who will all die to a single marine with a default loadout", while humans get these heavily armed to help them camp the Sulaco bay with +3 autoturrets, specialist gear, etc.
