Doctors having weapons

Post by BlackHeartKabal » 13 Dec 2015, 15:03

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Doctors should be able to get pistols and magnums if the Sulaco is boarded.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
People won't have to put up with moderators banning them for defending themselves against griefers or the crusher charging down the corridor, forced to watch as they are blown/slashed to bits because "Doctors can't have weapons because raisin, and if you violate this in any context you will be banned"

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Let doctors have weapons if the Sulaco is boarded.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Tell moderators that weapons are OK.

There have been no less than two HUGE posts about this in general chat. I don't think this suggested is going to go anywhere.

I'm pretty sure we already discussed this a ton, and Apophis is going to allow service pistols for self defense only.

No, Doctors should only get weapons for being boarded, none of this "Self-Defense" shit people keep bringing up. You don't see actual Doctors carrying guns to shot some nut who breaks out of his restraints.

Call MP's, get Marines to back you up, or contact admins, because as long as you're a competent Doctor there should be no LEGITIMATE reason for someone to be shooting you.

Self-defense FROM BOARDERS. This entire topic is about BOARDING. And being able to DEFEND YOURSELF while ALIENS are BOARDING. Every past topic about doctors with weapons has been about BOARDING.

It's like you don't even read any topics you post in.

Problem is, that even if you're being boarded and a crusher is charging your ass in medbay, you WILL be banned for pulling a gun.

The above is not hyperbole. That is an actual situation I have seen.

I find it a bit funny that you post this right after getting banned for using weapons as a doctor. Looking at your appeal, you were even warned by Feweh beforehand. If you'd taken the time to run a search in the suggestions, you'd see that doctors will be allowed to use sidearms in the future for when the Sulaco is boarded. Any other times, you should call the MPs.

The sulaco was being boarded, and I was defending myself from a flagarant griefer. And where do you think the MPs were?
Feweh DID explicitly say to make a suggestion, too.

"People won't have to put up with moderators banning them for defending themselves against griefers"

Yes, because Griefers board shuttles. Starting to think you don't read the Suggestions Skye.

Not just that, but you sorta' take an oath not to harm others. You know, that fucking oath all the Doctors on the Sul take,,,

When you can be banned for a guy shooting and punching you to death when you're just bandaging yourself in a locker, there's a problem with that rule. Not sure about you, but if someone is murdering me, any oath goes out the window.

Griefers should be ahelped so they can be banned, just like every other griefer. That's in the rules itself and really doesn't need to be modified by any suggestions.

Being banned for shooting at xenos once you're boarded is a completely different story from Griefer #462 coming and shooting up the medbay. I'm in favor of allowing the former to go, not the latter. (Really, I'm in favor of being able to shoot Griefer #462's face off, but it gets handled well enough as-is when admins are actually responsive.)

Does your oath not to harm other humans supersede the fact you're about to be gutted by something that's trying to rip your face off that is distinctly not human? For that matter, where does that oath preclude you from doing any harm whatsoever to anything, and who the hell wrote such a shitty oath?

+1 , once the Sulaco has received the boarding message everyone should be armed.

I've honestly never understood the rule personally. In any realistic situation where a Naval ship has been boarded by hostiles, General Quarters would be called and weapons distributed to all personnel. It doesn't have to be PDWs issued as standard, but allowing Doctors to retrieve (or having emergency ones stashed in medical/CMO office) pistols, revolvers or even SMGs makes perfect sense. Hell it's even lore-friendly given that Ripley was given an M41 during Aliens, Burke (the CL) would have been given one too had he not been exposed for his betrayal of them all.

There's been like 3 suggestions about this topic. In those 3 suggestions, every argument against doctors using pistols when the aliens board was shot down. There's no legitimate reason for it to prohibited.

Even in the rules of the server, shooting a xeno with a handgun isn't technically prohibited because the rule emphasizes that causing injury to MARINES is the issue.

ANYWAYS!!! None of this matters, Apop's considering allowing doctors handguns when they get boarded.

-1 Apop is already working on a self defense pistol for Sulaco staff.

The oath don't mean squat.
I'm pretty much a pacifist irl, I swore to this, but if some fugly monster of Hades comes rolling into my medbay, I'm gonna find the nearest gun and pop a cap in it, because my will to live and survive comes before my oath, every time.

Denied. There is already a HUGE discussion topic about this, and I'm working on a solution.
