Net-gun

Post by Logi99 » 03 Jan 2016, 17:57

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I'd like to see actual captured xenos.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):Well at least the commander doesn't shout "Capture these lizards" cause it's annoying.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): So this possibly can be a specialist weapon and used for catching hostile in order to not get a bad time but certain castes such as Ravager, Crusher or any t3 including the Queen will not fit in the net because that has balance. And using the resist button whilst in the net should probably take some time.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I believe you can use the code you use to stun and try adding an arrest code so it possibly works. Idk code but if this is hard to code it's alright.

What benefit is there from capturing xenos?

We have little to no reasons to capture Xeno at the moment

Hells yeh, I'd love to see a research overhaul in general.

Morrinn dumped some sprites a while ago that haven't been implemented yet. Maybe there's something in the pipeline for the future.

As far as I remember on the Nostromo, there was quite a bit of salt when the stunbaton was used against aliens.

Perhaps if it were implemented in an overhaul along with a net gun, they could only be used on moderately injured aliens to avoid them being OP.

This could give researchers to identify the castes. Useful info.

I disagree on that. Due to the fact we can make researchers finally a good job. Maybe they can identify the parts or organs. Somethin like that.

If you had been a little more observant you might would of seen a country nota intent pen in research.

Oh of course!

The tiny room with GLASS DOORS and only way to keep them in is meltable walls and an airlock that can be clawed open if not bolted!

What possible reason does the researcher need a xeno alive then?

There have been a lot of "capture xenos" threads, but there is 0 mechanical advantage. If you want to RP research, have marines collect dead xenos. Otherwise a captured xeno has their round ruined for no benefit.

-1 to this idea all day.

I believe they are meaning the alien EVOLVES.

I mean, sure but... it STILL Does nothing for marines. Infact, doing this only HAMPERS marines. NOW they have to put up with a god damn alien running around when it breaks out, because OF COURSE it's going to break out.

What we need is we need research options for dead and alive xenos. Shit like being able to breed a few friendly runners (it's lore friendly, hush).

The difference between being kept in a nest by a bored praetor and being experimented on by a scientist is big. The latter could be fun.

Marines aren't put in nests for fun, it's because that is the only way to get more xenos.

Frankly, I much prefer murdering marines than the time-consuming hug/drag/nest combo. But it provides a reason not to just mass ravagers and murder the shit out of marines.

My point is that it is way more interesting imo to rip things out of dead xenos for research than to try to capture one live. For one, marines enjoy collecting corpses anyway. For another, xenos should already be trying not to get killed

I wouldn't call it any more interesting. Easier, yes. Personally I think the additional risk and challenge of transporting a live xeno and the subsequent payoff would make for another interesting dimension to the current 'left click until it stops moving' combat.

If it were up to me, I'd make it work with organs. Organs give research in the analyser, they decay at different rates. You can get the low-level swag with corpses dragged in, to get the top-tier shit you need to get one alive and extract the organ there and then.

No, because capturing one live is a either a massive pain in the ass for marines, or completely wastes the time of the xeno.

I rather be dead than captured as a xeno.

They could add this into the researcher update down the line.

But currently it's pointless.

Neutral for now.

This could be very useful in taking down a big alien which has a lot of HP, such as ravager or queen. Taking on account that there is only 1 specialist in squad, these guns wouldn't be common. +Support
