Welders, Vents, and You!

Post by monkeysfist101 » 14 Jan 2016, 18:08

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Improve vent functionality. Change vent welding and hand welder mechanics. Add more vents.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Better vent capability for xenos.
Improved welder functionality.
This would add another route for xenos to circum"vent" marine defenses.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Remove mask requirement from marine welder - It has a built in shield.
Require one metal sheet to weld a vent - Think of it as welding a plate over it.
Xenos can use acid on welded vents to "unweld" it.
Add a vent system to the LV-624 Lazarus Compound - Do these schmucks not have ventilation?

+1 Sep for the vents in the planet, that makes no absolute sense
before you could un weld the vents,in the alien tab there was an specific command for it,dont know why it was removed

+1. It makes sense in all honesty to weld a sheet of metal over BARS in the floor, too keep issues out. Not too mention, aciding vents would help on prison map.

Vent system on the planet only makes sense inside domes for like 'air conditioning' or heating, but only in domes that are physically connected to one another should the vents allow passage to each other, like Hydro-Medical Fitness-Science

They can already do the acid thing, but I'm fine with the other changes too.

Can they do it from the other side, though? That's what this suggestion is for.

Aciding a vent removes it from the game instead of unwelding it. And I'd rather have xenos only be able to unweld vents if they're actually at the vent otherwise welding vents just wastes resources on the marine side.

There is a seperate one for vents that jsut unwelds them, unless they removed it since we left the Nostromo.

There's no unweld vent verb for xenos unless one was sneakily added very very recently.

The original verb was called "Corrode Vent" and it would not delete the vent. It changed the sprite of the vent to the unwelded version and it set its welded var to 0 over 1.

I do not know the actual reason it was removed, but I can assume it was either for general balancing, or because spamming the proc made lag.

+1. lore wise, it sounds good to remove the mask requirement for marine welders. It also sounds good for aliens to unweld vents that they come to. They have to take over the area with the vent, they should be rewarded by opening that areas vent back up. -1 to requiring metal, i think that just shutting the vent and welding it closed is good enough. requiring metal would make a hard task too difficult.

I'm fine with the current system, just get RO to spam welding tools like usual and generally speaking just sacrifice yourself when you pop as a larva and sneak under doors.

Not letting the marine knows about vents is the first way to victory and keeping them open during boarding.

Otherwise I'm neutral as a whole... Rehaul the welding system to have specialist / engineer welders that don't need special equipment and throw around normal ones that need equipment for general purpose and personal (Including colony).
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Yes, because there is at least 2 threads suggesting the same thing, all made in February, aka like 1 month after this one.

Duplicate is not the right word for this

Some parts have been added, others have not. We'll revisit this some other time. Resolved for now.
