Firing a smart gun one handed doesn't really seem like something you should be able to do.

Smartgun users wear a specially designed harness that prevents them from dropping the gun, even when knocked unconscious. Why can't they fire the weapon with one hand?

NOPE! They wont ever get them because it will unbalance them. A decision will have been made as to which weapons are allowed what to ensure they are not OP or borked.

Holding guns with two hands isn't because of recoil it's because you have to properly hold a gun in order to fire it accurately.

You do realize the Smartgun is universally considered the worst Specialist item right now? The other 3 weapon systems can actually engage T3 aliens and come out on top, and the Armor allows the specialist to survive situations they couldn't. The Charger is the only attachment worth getting for it right now as it lets you do more than tickle T3s at the expense of your firerate going to shit.

And again, the weapon attaches directly to the harness, with a mechanism at waist level. 'Aiming' is done entirely via the eye piece, the foreward grip on the weapon just make sit easier to control recoil. 'It'd be overpowered' is nonsense, the single perk of the weapon is that you can't shoot friendlies with it. M41s seem to do more damage output, and can carry more ammo with 8 mags in a belt alone being 240 rounds compared to the backpack that gets 250 rounds and marines are banned from dragging around a second power pack because apop. The Smartgun needs some serious tweaks and buffs to make it even relevant.

I really think the smartgun should be buffed in terms of damage and ammo capacity, but making it one handed is ehh...

-1

There are better ways to buff the smartgun. Also I think it's in a very strong position right now, with the burst fire changes. Some added accuracy would be about the only thing it needs to fill its role more effectively in the specialist hierarchy.

-1 I think all the smartgun needs to be in the big leagues again is to not suffer an accuracy penalty when in beast burst mode.

-1, smartgun needs a buff but one handing a minigun, even with a harness, is lunacy.

Smartguns have changed a lot since this was suggested, and I've also made some recent changes to them to make them slightly better. Resolved for now.
