New Idea for When the Queen 'drives' the shuttle up to the Sulaco
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): So This idea is basically that when the Queen uses the shuttle console to get up to the Sulaco they wouldn't be too great at driving like how you would expect instead of you know a perfect landing every time. Anyway to sum this up: When the queen uses the shuttle console the shuttle could crash into the side of the Sulaco 9To stop breaching when it crashes in you could just state the Sulaco has an good anti-breach system that was deployed as soon as the shuttle crashed into the ship.
With this suggestion it would lead to say 4 or maybe 3 areas on the Sulaco where the shuttle could crash into the Sulaco with aliens ready to board.
Simplified: If the queen uses the shuttle console to send the shuttle then because the queen probably just slashes the thing to pieces it would make sense for the shuttle to crash into thee Sulaco, in which there are 3-4 areas where it could crash into and this would be randomized for each round to keep a 'new' feel to it as well as to prevent meta defences.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Could poetentially fix shuttle meta defences
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
-Queen uses shuttle console
-Due to this the shuttle will be put on a course to crash into the Sulaco which we be one of the 3-4 designated crash sites added to the code.
-Shuttle crashes into the Sulaco, aliens pour out. Have fun storming the castle.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Quite abit of coding most likely and some mapping.
If any of this doesn't make sense feel free to say so and I'll explain it further.

Definitely something I'd love to see at some point if possible. It would really help prevent the electrified ring of death around the shuttle. Would add some nice tension to the atmosphere as well.

I had to vote for this as soon as I saw the Princess Bride reference. Also it's just a great idea.

+1 for sure. Adds some RP to the situation as well as prevent meta defenses. Only problem I see is when they leave on the shuttle. Is the breach opened due to the lack of shuttle? Also, I would recommend a small shoddy wall between the crashed shuttle and the sulaco. This would prevent a barrage of bullets instantly entering the shuttle, plus it makes sense irl; if two ships crashed into each other, the smaller one would either crumple like a tin can (especially considering the relative size of the sulaco) or be partially fused to the larger.

+1 for letting the Xenos enter the Sulaco anywhere but the Hangar.

Re: New Idea for When the Queen 'drives' the shuttle up to the Sulaco
I've been thinking about this and I believe that when the shuttle leaves, a inflatable wall (the inflatable walls health would be set to an extremely high amount so that a breach could never occur) covering that section could appear to stop any breaches in an ic sense you could just say that all the exterior walls have a fail safe where if a breach is detected inflatable walls will pop out kind of like airbags in a car just for a giant space ship.Im not entirely sure if that's codingly possible either.MadSnailDisease wrote:Only problem I see is when they leave on the shuttle. Marines fortifying the area where the shuttle will land pisses me off, I quote Apop "Aliens are supposed to win when they reach the Sulaco.". Instead we have marines surrounding the landing pad and slaughtering us. +1 *really drawn out PLU-U-Z ONE!*

This is actaully a smart idea. It would make sense that the queens flying is akin too a greased pig on roller skates, and crashes would happen. +1

Ah, that actually makes a lot of sense. Also, you misunderestimate the power of code; what you are suggesting is 100% possible.Mr. Penguin wrote: I've been thinking about this and I believe that when the shuttle leaves, a inflatable wall (the inflatable walls health would be set to an extremely high amount so that a breach could never occur) covering that section could appear to stop any breaches in an ic sense you could just say that all the exterior walls have a fail safe where if a breach is detected inflatable walls will pop out kind of like airbags in a car just for a giant space ship.Im not entirely sure if that's codingly possible either.
I would recommend the crashes be on a particular side of the ship, since the queen is probably flinging the shuttle directly at the sulaco from the planet surface, and is not likely to fly around to one side, only to slam into it hard enough to travel from the shuttle to the main ship.

Re: New Idea for When the Queen 'drives' the shuttle up to the Sulaco
I like the idea so long as the shuttle can only crash on the lower deck, and that it should crash to the south side. Since you can infer that the dropship clearly did not land correctly inside the hanger.
On the other hand you could try and argue the Dropship has a auto-lock feature designed to automatically land in a hanger without pilot control.
The landing sites need to be away from area's people congregate, no need to kill half the Marines on the ship due to the dropship landing ontop of them.

I always thought it had auto-pilot, so in that way it doesnt make sense, but it could allow for an interesting fix too the OP hanger defences. Nuteral.

I've thought about this and basically from an ic stand point the queen wouldn't know how to even activate the computer so i'm fairly sure if anything would happen they would slash at it to get it to work which in turn could potentially cause the normal shuttles docking and alignment sequence to be abit off the mark when coming in for a landing approach.

It actually gives an element of surprise. Now the marines would actually have a reason to worry about being boarded.
I think it would lead to the marines fortifying one location just as horribly as the hangar fortresses, but at least the Xenos have more of a chance.

I mean, not all(but a damn good lot of) Sulaco sieges are endgame for marines. What happens if they have to go back planetside or if there's additional xenos spawned from nest planetside hosts?
Otherwise, fun idea.

Well, if they have too head back planet side, they can take the shuttle, AND PUSH IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!

If the aliens need to go back down they could use the pod and if the marines want to go back down they could fix the dropship that crashed into the Sulaco or take the pod.Veradox wrote:I mean, not all(but a damn good lot of) Sulaco sieges are endgame for marines. With this in mind it might also promote aliens and marines alike to make sure that they are ready to either head up or down and take on an assault against the enemy.
I'm still not entirely convinced about 'how' exactly the going back down would work or if my variation of going back down after crashing into the Sulaco is any good, so any opinions on it would be a great help.
