Give ERTs a base.

Post by Nick123q23 » 30 Jan 2016, 19:07

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): So last round I was the Iron bears commander, my team was slightly competent and acknowledged my order of "Take the sulaco, but don't shoot the marines unless they shoot you.", as that's what the default objectives and apophis-endorsed role for the iron bears.
Then an admin or moderator changes the objectives by telling me to be friendly and negotiate 5 minutes after we already docked and the various things fucking up leading to a firefight.
Enough of that round, but this finally gave me the idea to give ERTs a base to act as a buffer before they head out to the sulaco with zero idea of what they're supposed to be doing there.
This way perhaps they can assign roles better, make sure they have their equipment, and talk with the sulaco about what's going on before heading out to the ship itself.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): See above.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): See above

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Mapping. Maybe have the various vendors depend on the selected ERT, so you don't get weyland-yutani PMCs with iron bears shit, etc.

Won't be so easy. They have to add five whole z-layers, one for each ERT, maybe four because pizzaman. Not to mention populating said Z-layers with vendors, shuttle coding, shuttles themselves, and a whole mess of coding/mapping/spriting shit. Neutral.

This would be nice, though, because you'd have a place where you can talk to your ERT squad before landing. I don't think xenos should get one, but it'd definitely help for the human squad-based ERT's to get situated.

It's actually very simple and does not require all of that. I am, however, neutral because that means slower ERT response time. You technically have a few minutes before the shuttle arrives, so I dunno, make the most of it?

They won't need to add five whole z-layers, all ERTS have their own ID cards, what stops them from just spawning each ERT in a room connected to their specific ERT prep room, just like the marine squads?

And if they C4/hack into another ERT room, Nick? Maybe just have each group have specific spawn points, having 5 different areas in one z-level that aren't directly connected.

Make the doors explosion-proof and unhackable. Boom, problem solved.

You can't c4 unsimulated walls. Also, you can just add a step_to teleport point for them to transfer to the shuttle before take off. I mean, it's super easy to do to be honest.

You can C4 doors, though, can you not?

You don't really need a door to the shuttle is what I was saying. I don't recall if there are c4 proof airlocks, but it wouldn't be hard to do either way.

Anyone playing an ERT shouldn't be stupid enough to break into the wrong room. If they do, we have admins to punish them for being in the wrong place.

Why the fuck you would need 5 z-levels?

You already have centcomm z-level where nuke-ops, wizard, ERT, deathsquad, heist and the whole centcomm is based, not mention is not acessesible if you go flying in space.

Just make a flying box in space with the stuff and shuttle for each merc.

This, in another server which I was an ERT, another responder got the amazing Idea of blowing the blast door leading to the mechs (which can only be opened by an admin), he got jobbaned.
A rule abolir that could be easily implemented

+1, It would be much nicer to actually be able to gear up before my teammates just steal all the good shit leaving me with bullshit to fight with.

Great idea, Im unsure how I would implement it though, Do you do a seperate base for each ERT, meaning Russians get a lot of vodka and ushankas and PMCs get a less randomized amount of grenades? Or just do the vender strat and risk someone like me finding a way to fuck it up.
You could also optionally let them choose where to dock, Currently its RNG but i'm sure it wouldnt be that hard to make it choosable would it?

I don't believe we'll be going ahead with this. We may eventually do something like this, but it's not something planned.
