The most honorable ERT
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): A Chinese/ Japanese ERT group, to add a little more variety. I'd suggest making them hostile, as besides xeno ERT and bears, more often than not, Marines have a helpful ert, this would add a little more risk.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Add more risk to calling an ERT, and more possible rp moments.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): They could possibly be named the red suns if a Japanese group, Or the emperors chosen if Chinese. A heavily trained fighting force, they have the mentality that death is failure, and the only honorable death is their own. Each responder would have a dead man switch bomb, that would activate on death, preserving their honor. One responder could possibly have a heavily advanced armor set, with an energy comprised sword that cannot be lost, like a smartgun, giving that samurai feel to things. They would have m41a rifles, or anything else, as I don't believe the alien lore had any Chinese/ Japanese specific weapons. I'd suggest also having it being inheritly hostile, like the bears or xeno ert, as the chances of a hostile ert is outweighed by a positive one, raising the risk and consideration for marines, having them ask "Do we REALLY need it, or are we smart enough to pull some guerrilla tactics, xeno style?" That's all I have for now, any suggestions would be useful.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I'm not sure, though spriting would need to be done of course.

Sounds fun, but I expect it's a huge deviation from CM Lore.

I don't think it would fit into the lore.

Re: The most honorable ERT
I like the general idea of this but the Emperor's Chosen seems like kind of an archaic name for a futuristic Chinese ERT.

Re: The most honorable ERT
I think we should be limiting to the amount of ERT's we add, I also question adding another hostile ERT to the roster. You're already taking a risk where you only have a three in five chance of getting a useful ERT, with a fully one in five chance of getting a hostile ERT.
The only ERT which are near guaranteed to be friendly are Dutch's Dozen and the Freelancers. The PMC's are loyal to the Liason which, depending on how the round's gone, could end up being bad for the Marines. The Pizza man is a meme while the Iron Bears are clearly hostile.
If we add a new hostile ERT, without adding a friendly ERT, your going down to a near 50% chance of a useless ERT. Why would Marines take such odds? This might result in less ERT Distress calls.

I request that if this is denied, we all get katanas instead of knifes. Canon confirmed.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote:The Katana is used by the Colonial Marines.

In all seriousness, though, it seems pretty out of place.

Fuck it,I want to see space hunters ERT. A group of famed hunters on the way to their next big hunt pass by your distress signal. They have large moustaches, various hunting outfits and armed with sniper rifles, .44's and shotguns.

Re: The most honorable ERT
It deviates from CM Lore, and we do not give players energy weapons for balance reasons. If you could rework the suggestion to fit a faction from CM Lore I would be all about it, but right now I remain neutral.

Well, there ARE the fabled Colonial Marine Commandos, but I think they're an admin button and I've NEVER seen them in action.Steelpoint wrote:I think we should be limiting to the amount of ERT's we add, I also question adding another hostile ERT to the roster. Re: The most honorable ERT
The energy sword would be just a sprite, however the one operative would just have the sword and heavy armor, so perhaps it would snap onto the belt or armor if dropped. Also, after a little digging, I managed to find at least ONE asian/chinese group that was hostile, Which was the Chinese/Asian Nation Cooperative, which was the greatest enemy to the USIC during the space race, going so far as to declare a cold war. Considering how they were most likely all but disbanded after the entire space race debacle, and mentioned in the novel Steel Egg, which pre-dates ripley, the group would most likely be a splinter cell of sorts, of purist views, and some resentment towards anything apart of the USIC or USCM. If any of my information is incorrect, do correct me.Vrai wrote:It deviates from CM Lore, and we do not give players energy weapons for balance reasons. Re: The most honorable ERT
Which reinforces the point that ERT Distress calls already have quite a bit of risk to them already. While it could add flavour to the distress calls, it would only further nerf the marines than they already are. Unless we can either add more friendly marine ERTs to balance it out, or make the proposed ERT at least as friendly to the marines as mercs, I personally do not support this suggestion. -1DernSquirrels^3 wrote: Well, there ARE the fabled Colonial Marine Commandos, but I think they're an admin button and I've NEVER seen them in action.
But +1 if the above points are rectified, since space samurai (despite being anti-lore) would be...interesting, to say the least. *cough cough*powerarmorandLAZERKATANAS*cough cough*.

We could have an ERT of ex-marines who recieved a distress beacon and came to help their old friends. They could have some edited-USCM uniforms and other special gear for a load out.

A group of retired ex-marines.......Ya know, that could fucking work, considering the group proposed is a bunch of ex space asian space communist people..things. That could make sense.Solacian72 wrote:
