Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
Back when Pre-Alpha was shifting into the new map there was going to be a think on Fridays where we went back to the old map as sorta a nostalgia thing. No idea what happened to that.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
I do miss the nostromo, I'm really not a fan of the prison since it`s way too open and linear in a way. But that said I'm not sure how balance would work, the fun of nostromo was all the tight little corridors and maint tunnels but current aliens are balanced for a wide open map so they may be pretty OP on the Nos.

this, and the prison we have is almost the same in terms of the corridors warfare and what not.Lostmixup wrote:It was literally just a default station renamed.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
Honestly as much as I dissed the Nostromo it's preferable to the pacing on LV-624. Not to say I don't appreciate it, I just hate sitting in an FOB for 30 minutes without any real threat.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
They promised every month they would open it for a day for remembrance. The Nostromo map was kinda not canon, considering (SPOILERS SPOILERS) The nostromo was detonated by Ellen Ripley in the end (SPOILERS SPOILERS)

We know and that's kind of what made it so great. It was built around being a functioning station more than a shooter level.Lostmixup wrote:It was literally just a default station renamed.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
well it will need a rework because of all the marine gear things and alien things there are now.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
Barely needs a rework, all we really need are insertion points for the pod and shuttle, which special hangars can be made for that. Nostromo/Box Station was made to be functional. It definitely favored aliens with tight corridors, plenty of vents and the dark unlit maintenance tunnels which had lockers galore that could be used for ambushes. Add to that, marines didn't have all access so engineers were required to do anything worth while.
Stating that Boxstation and Prisonship are the same thing is hilarously wrong. Prison is just a bad map, imo. Long empty corridors for marines and ranged xenos to shoot down, Xenos have no reason to pick anywhere but their spawn as a hive since the other 2/3rds of the ship are empty hallways that serve no purpose and are easily cut off from the rest of the ship with a single explosion destroying a vent pipe.
Nostromo had gear that could be salvaged, at least 5 viable hive locations (Xeno, Viro, Chapel, Prison and Engineering) with several other good spots that could be used by capable hives (Bridge, AI Core, Toxins, Cargo) marines had to hunt for the hive and most hive locations had multiple entry points.

I played CM everyday whilst they had nostromo and on low pop rounds there was 1 alien and had to become a queen yeah... Wasn't a good time being the only alien.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
Call it nostalgia but I do miss Boxstation/Nostromo. The smaller space of the map made encounters quicker to occur, it also had a better sense of combat flow as there was a clearly established frontline at all times, instead of a incoherent mess of charging and retreating over massively large territory.

Talk to Minijar, who received the assignment to convert the Nostromo for new CM but then vanished.

Why not use it as a test/project for a mapper application/mapper? Would give some work to the project and test abilities.apophis775 wrote:Talk to Minijar, who received the assignment to convert the Nostromo for new CM but then vanished.

Bumping this thread for LOCK and DENIED.
Its technically against the rules to suggest new maps, and its been stated that the reasons behind nostromo not popping back up is due to the chances of windows being blown open (bullets explosions and combat) and venting the whole station.

Gaze upon me,

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
I never played on the nostromo, but it sounds pretty cool. Why not go in and update it to make the windows something more explosion-resistant? Just not change the general layout.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
Large indoor environments with tight corridors can be interesting. Ice colony has them in the underground complex, but the combination of smaller size and elevator/ladder mechanics usually results in the marines cooped up in a corner trying to hold off the alien horde instead of fanning out through the complex.
If we want to remove breaching, it would be best to put the station in an asteroid.

Whilst it would require work, the exterior windows could be replaced with walls or made to be indestructible.KingKire wrote:Bumping this thread for LOCK and DENIED.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
I miss the nostromo, there was an ever pressent threat of being ambushed that just doesn't exist on the colony map. The colony map is awesome, don't get me wrong, but time always seemed to be running out on the Nostromo, where as time could stop for an hour on LV.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
The only problem is that map doesn't exactly cater to the fact we have crushers now, which means o nthe nostromos a maint tunnel could have a crusher in front then a boiler behind and basically wreck anything in the maint tunnel.Another problem would be XB assaults where one boiler could prevent a whole assault due to how narrow the entrance is.
I'm all down for this by the way I just think we need to think about how to alter the map to an extent that it works with the new aliens that we currently have.

Re: Bring Back the Nostromo
We'll bring this back when we can, but we're fixing up a few of the current maps at the moment. Resolved for now.
