Bumping Bodies

Post by Reznoriam » 20 Feb 2016, 18:05

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
I'd like to see a verb for ghosts occupying their bodies to let doctors know a player is waiting for cloning.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Currently a large number of marines ghost out and never return to their bodies for cloning, making resurrection of the dead a low priority for medical staff. This is especially true for severed heads which would require reattachment surgery. Some kind of verb that put flavor text (not spammable) into the game would help resolve the problem for players that do stick around. (Ex: A spark of color briefly gleams in (person)'s eye before they return to lifelessnes).

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

There's a fairly easy way to check for this already. If you examine a corpse and it doesn't say the soul has departed, you know the player is still waiting in the body. I try to make a habit of checking the bodies like this before I try cloning them. Any that definitely still have a player get cloned first. You probably already knew that, but I figured I should mention it. It would be nice to be able to check heads in the same way though.

I feel like this suggestion is aimed more towards bodies whose occupants are ghosted but still wish to be cloned or have been ignored, really.
Something to draw the attention to the body.

I believe this suggestion is a message for the ghost player "X has nudged your body!" sorta dealy. Which I like. Could also be used for defibs.

I approve, people will ghost out of their bodies commonly to examine the game a bit, and when doctors see they aren't in their body they say "Oh well, morgue them", or cremate them, or make them into synth meat (that one being a bit uncommon, but it happens, trust me...)

I've had this happen to me once or twice. I ghosted to keep an eye on how the game was progressing. (I think I was mostly follow people willing them to find my body.) I got put in the cloner and the doctor said I was braindead.

I jumped back into my body, and luckily the doctor cloned me without issue.

I can see how this may not always be the case.

Yes, it's mostly aimed at bodies that have been ignored for one reason for another and especially aimed at severed heads which have no such examination text.

-1, any competent doctor will check with throwing a dead body in the cloner before just tossing it in the morgue.

Perhaps have the body 'shudder' when someone uses the 'reenter corpse' verb? I'm not sure the general idea seems good but might need some more thinking over.

+1 for this since when medbay is getting insane and there are piles of corpses to clone. I will give the person 3 chances to be spawned so about a 9 second span. If it fails the person is shit out of luck since I am there to get marines back up and I don't want to wait on them to come back to their body. It'll probably help everyone involved since the marine gets back into the round and the doctor's life is made easier while still getting bitched at by -insert name of disgruntled marine here- because they aren't getting any care (even though they are probably stable... and just waiting for an OR to open up)

Some kind of "hey this guys still in the game, just ghosted" kind of message would be great.

Yes and No there is currently a system that says "He/She has no pulse and their soul has departed" which you are referring to but that can easily mean 4 separate things.

Option 1
The person is dead and left the server

Option 2
The person is dead but ghosted since its rather dull being in a body since you can't hear anything and can't see anything and probably want to be cloned but since you are so distant from your body, when the doc tosses you in the cloner and them being in rush probably give you 2 scans, 1 at the start and maybe another in 5 secs and if you aren't quick enough you are shit out of luck

Option 3
The person is dead and ghosted but don't want to continue being in the round

Option 4
The person is dead and joined the xenos

So I +1 this since I liked Gentlefood and Jackserious suggestion basically being like "Hey ghost your body is being dragged, probably means you are going cloned soon, so please enter your body" which probably give the marine enough time to get in their body before the pressured doc gives up on the rotting pile of meat you call a corpse

Or make there be a sound to when you get scanned/put in the scanner so people know to get back in their body.

+1. All my +1's. As of now it's extremely hard to get peoples attention when that happens because most have LOOC off or ignore it for some reason.

You seem like you don't play, there is messeage when you are ghosted and you are placed in a scanner,no need for a sound

I've played a stupid amount of hours and I've never seen this message. The deadchat + livingchat scroll is pretty intense however.

You seem to misunderstand what this is for. This is for the DEAD PEOPLE to notify the LIVING people they are back in their corpse if for whatever reason they missed the cloning announcement to get back into their corpse/the medical that tried to clone you is a shitler and only pressed the button once.

Varies somewhat upon the doctor, medic, or researcher doing it. Personally give them up to 3-5 scans attempts before removing, trying next one and repeated quickly. Somewhat depends on if your rushed with multiple dead bodies at once, other things going on even as several cases you might have only 1-2 surgeons available being overbooked for surgeries. Which that is terrible at times, even when your research is SSD alongside medics AO side. Although do recalling some cases where they've had to resort to looc to mention being back in their body, somewhere among maybe 4-7 corpses if not somewhere in the morgue.

Honestly if they're given some means to inform your personal about being back in their corpse for cloning, think it should point to which body, yet delay between usage. That way it doesn't exactly spam chat, when you've got multiple wounded/corpses, etc. all within the same area. Honestly part of cloning delays are IC matters where many other variables might be present, on top of many encountered doctors not knowing chemistry.

To quickly clarify to those who've -1 for "it's already in." I think he means like a message that tells the doctor the ghost is either currently still in the game, or intending to return to his body, or something else like that. Not just "he's ded jim"
