The boilers last option

Post by ShortTemperedLeprechaun » 28 Feb 2016, 02:33

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Give the boilers the ability to go extremely fast for a few moments, before blowing into a mass of acid and death. This will enable a boiler who is absolutely doomed make it's last moments useful, instead of cowering in a corner panicked.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Allow boilers to act a bit more like they do in the game and canon, which is to say, as giant suicide bombers. It would also allow boilers who have been cornered and want to make one last attack get that, while also getting marines to keep a little more distance from them, and make them a bit more scary then just giant glow sticks.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): In the game and canon, boilers can gain an excess burst of speed before charging at you, and suicide bombing into a cloud of death and hell. Considering it would mean a player effectively suicides, it would only be used by those who honestly want one last attack, when they know they are fucked. Marines could get a warning message if it does them in their view along the lines of something like "The boiler begins to bubble viciously, and begins to paw at the ground." or something.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Not a clue, but I suppose a command or verb that, once used, gave a boiler runner like speed and like...5-10 seconds before popping.

Having been subject to near insta-death from being caught in boiler gas, I think this would be really overpowered. It's essentially a huge radius grenade with a close to instant kill. While it would be pretty damn awesome, and there'd be some great moments; it's gonna be a huge balance issue.

I have to agree with the said above. The cloud is OP as it is and if we enable the boiler to banzai charge it will be even worse.

+1 seems like a neat/funny mechanic. If only there was a counter for boilers killing themselves without harming any marines haha

-+ neutral vote. I think it would be better to boost the gas duration and area of effect instead of boosting boiler´s speed. I must admit boilers are too weak nowadays.

Boilers seem really weak nowadays, and to be honest, their gas cloud is such a crapshoot.

You can be caught in a cloud of acid, as in HIT by the glob, and end up anywhere from COMPLETELY FINE to EXCEEDINGLY BURNT TO A FINE DUST depending on how the acid clouds decide to spread, how many times they tick, etc.

All those factors are outside the boiler's control. At least being able to charge in might be able to catch the marines in a less maneuverable area.

...Also dying in a corner cowering as a boiler is just sad.

Mainly because a boiler can use this with full life when it wants, doing allahu akbar and destroying entire squads, boiler gas is awfully effective.

Cowering in a corner is indeed sad. I'd be fine if instead of this change, we made the cloud spread faster and or wider. As is now, a group of marines can just side step, and keep firing and that's just not right.

they already explode after death, what would be the difference between it being an actual attack, and you just running at marines once your dying if both more or less have the same end result?

The difference of running at a maine now, is they can shoot you into crit, reach a safe distance, and then finish you, making your cloud worthless.

Its just meeeh that boilers cower in corners when chased, actually saw one cower to a marine with a knife one day...it was...just sad
Atleast giving them a speed boost for one last chance suicide charge would make it better.

As it stands now, I agree. However, as I feared a general buff besides a kamikazi mechanic would be shot down because "It's balanced, denied" so, with the kamikazi mechanic I suggest.

+1 I have played with the boiler and by itself, he is can be overwhelmed easily so giving him a chance to go ALLAH RU AKBAR 3 to 6 tiles to any direction would make sense and make marines rethink their strategy.

You're not the only one who thinks so.... But, Aliens are getting a huge rework, is what the mins are saying. We'll get points over time to "buy" upgrades in a round, but this discussion is for another thread.

They have been hyping this 'huge rework' for months now, and I'm not entirely convinced it won't be a net nerf to aliens. Everyone knows Apop fucking HATES aliens, I was on a round where there was a solo drone on the ship and he was so buttflustered it killed a few AFK marines he reported on its location every second it would vent-crawl and tried to justify it with 'well da AI can see all n' stuff'
