elevator on Sulaco

Post by SUPERMAN112 » 12 Mar 2016, 10:50

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Make marines and aliens unable to pull anything up ladders, as pulling a 200-300 pound marine or a 200 pound turret is pretty unrealistic. As this is a somewhat rp server I think an elevator should be added to transport marines/heavy equipment.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):Increase immersion and role play, and eliminate ladder camping on both sides (only queen can activate ladder for aliens)

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): add a few elevators (probably one near main ladders, one near medbay, and one near engineering)

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):They would function something like the dropship, maybe a 2x2 tile space that goes down to the lower floor on the press of a button, just with a much lower delay time, and blocked off "landing area" so people don't get gibbed.

Just going to note that in the movies, the aliens consistently fought by lying in ambush in a vent and dragging hosts off, sometimes vertically. At the very least, aliens should be unaffected.

adds to muh emmershun and it would just be plain cool. No more blindly going down a ladder when there might be xenos at the bottom, instead barricading an elevator and heading down in force.

An elevator? What is this, the air force? USE THE LADDERS LIKE A MARINE.

Didn't think of that but yeah, this also solves the issue of ladder camping somewhat. (side not only queen should be able to activate elevator for aliens)

Wasn't this discussed before on why there won't be elevators?

I think this would need to be tested.

It sounds great on paper, and seems like it would solve a ton of upper deck/lower deck stalemates after the xenos invade the Sulaco. But we'd need to test it out to see if it actually worked. Maybe add it in on one of the next map tests?

Neutral for now.

While it might be nice in some ways, you have to remember that getting wounded to the medbay in a timely manner is important.

Having to wait for an elevator to haul up a handful of dying marines would just make things harder for the marines honestly. I wouldn't mind them for heavy cargo, but when a man's life is on the line, I don't want to waste too much time.

Would it be too extreme to replace all (or more, at least- probably not the engineering ladder) ladders with elevators? A 4x4 for the main infantry elevator, and a 2x2 for cargo and medbay? This seems both more interesting, offers more opportunities for Sulaco-side tactics, and is realistic, considering moving absolutely everything in the ship by ladder is definitely not. This would likely require quite a bit of re-mapping for the ship, but hasn't that been in the background being worked on for a while now anyway? Perhaps I'm wrong, but either way I +1 it.

sounds good....until it turns into the snow map with trench like warfare which goes on for hours because no one wants to go up or down the ladders.Neutral for now

-1 quick access to cloning from the medbay is crucial for doctors.

It's certainly possible to carry your mate on your shoulders while climbing a ladder, and Xenos have zero problem hauling your ass up there.

Xenos can push APCs off cliffs, they don't really have any relation to human physiology. The medbay ladder is probably better off remaining a ladder, but that doesn't mean the rest of the idea isn't interesting.

i agree marines don't use elevators they are for the weak. Anyone wanting to use an elevator to move bodies up and down floors need to join the army. The marines also can't afford an elevator with the type of money then get.

Elevators are the bane of us when put together with atmos. Maybe on the new ship, but I'm not sure about that. Denied for now.
