Allow machete to be put on belt

Post by Tristan63 » 13 Mar 2016, 06:43

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Allow us to equip the machete on our belt slot
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Looks pretty badass if its in a sheathe and allows us to wear a satchal/other thing on our back aswell

Asking because of the suggestion name. :I
Anyway, +1.
I believe Apophis too mentioned that they should be placed on the belt slot.

I suppose the reason I am against this is because the machete is supposed to be an inconvenient choice. It is not meant to be something marines just toss on their belt and take lightly.

Currently the backpack and the suit slot can be used for primary weapons. This means that if a marine wants to take a machete, they have to sacrifice their ability to carry a primary weapon.

If we are to do this, the machete would be made weaker so it is no longer a valid primary, but a secondary like the pistols and the throwing knives.

Like said, it's supposed to be an unwieldy choice.

Neutral. There's really no non-gamey reason why you couldn't fit a machete on a belt slot. But it's a gameplay consideration, so I dunno. My opinion is something like, a machete is not that powerful, and fitting it on a belt wouldn't really change all that much.

The machete actually has a fairly strong advantage against a lot of T3 Xenomorphs. They've got armor which deflects and reduces the damage of projectiles, but is less protective against melee.

It's a very situational weapon, and it's not something you should take lightly.

It's replacing something that'd take a bulk of their ammo away if they put a rifle in their suit slot. It is, indeed, hindering them. Infact, it'd be hindering them moreso than if they were to put it on their back.

Agreed. Its supposed to function as a primary. The thing can block ravager hits, do good damage on T3s, and I've seen people use it hand and hand with different weapons. -1

I think it should stay suit or back slot. A standard can already carry 7+ clips of ammo without a belt, there would be virtually no reason to not take one unless you're a gun hoarder.

I mean yeah, for baddasery its okay, but when it can block attacks, do more damage than a knife and be in limited qualities and forced to carry not in backpacks and etc? i don't think it needs to be able to put on belt

+1
Simply put if a marine or marines engage in melee against nimble opponents such as t1's, t2's they will lose or get hugged.
however a t3 is not nimble and more often than not the specs designed to counter them are dead by half way through the round.
A t3 will kill a lone machete user anyways.

This idea was already denied in the past. It's supposed to be an inconvenience to take.

Surely it would still be an inconvenience as you'd not be able to store ammo in a belt?

The belt slot is a much lesser slot than suit storage or back. We're likely to increase the availability of machetes to compensate for their deflect removal.

We've adressed this in the past and denied it. I'll lock it unless any other development staff have any objections.

What a save. I just woke up. We denied it in the past, when I wasn't a dev, because it could block bullets and was treated as a primary weapon. As it stands now, I think we could revisit the idea of either making machetes more common or allowing them to be stored elsewhere. One thing to note here is that very few melee items go in more than two slots, outside of the stunbaton. I'd recommend leaving this open for more feedback.

The machete is on par with the cermonial sword in both size and uses. When i think of people using machetes, its in a leather scabbard on their hip so its easy to reach and put back. As far as im concerned, the hip scabbard is the place to put your knives, blades, and other sharp instruments that you need to use on a quick and constant basis.
Gaze upon me,
for I have wandered deep into the ancient tombs of knowledge to which lie madness and sorrow, cleansing a path for all those who walk behind me...

...

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

+1 To wearing it on the belt. For real world reasons, lore reasons (Billy and his belt machete when fighting the predator), and gameplay reasons. Mainly because machetes, like all melee weapons given to marines, are nowhere near ideal for fighting aliens. I've stabbed a lot of crushers to death over the months with combat knives, but that wasn't because knife > crusher, that as just a dumb crusher I happened to be in melee range with. Machete's should not be thought of or treated as primary weapons, they're basically just a stylized sidearm with increased utility and thus not deserving of their current limitations.

We got holsters for them and stuff, so this is resolved for the time being.
