Upgraded MedHud

Post by NoShamNoWow » 09 Apr 2016, 02:35

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Make it to were the MedHud is able to simply scan someone by shift clicking them with the MedHud on. Just a direct upgrade to it, and if not. Make one researchable were it can scan people from a distance with the MedHud.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Easier for medics to see what is wrong with a patient, less time consuming.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Have a Medical HUD on and shift click someone with it on, it would examine someone normally while also scanning them as if you had a Med Scanner.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Coding.

Reenus Turner asks, "Do you got a bipod I can put on my knife?"

+1, it will save the medics a lot of clicks to determine which part of the body is injured and also, will add some more usefull things for the researcher to make besides grenades, thing is that you can't examine to activate the proccess involved to scan somebody with the health analyzer, well, not with our current code, best way to code this is if we add a verb to analyze people from distance with the upgraded medical hud, it's more reasy to code and we'll save abby some time.

+1. Seems easy to tack on the analyze verb to the examine verb if you're wearing a MedicHUD. I'd combat medic more often with this added.

Damn that's actually brilliant. I'd still like the original scanners to be in the game, for rudimentary first aid and whatnot.

All of my +1. It'd be so much easier, and hopefully easy to code in too? Love it, want it.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool and all... But why? This is like asking a security HUD to dispense handcuffs. From a distance.

The HUD is for determining which people are injured and who needs treatment first. Helps with triage. You have a health analyzer to get a rough report of the damage and then an advanced scanner that tells you pretty much everything.

If using a health analyzer the normal way is too difficult, it may be best to consider playing something else other than a doctor.

Is not difficult, is that it takes more time to analyze than healing someone when it should be done almost by instinct by a trained medic to determine just bylooking at the injured person, but it doesn't work like that, as a medic, you need to take the analyzer from your backpack or pocket, you need to try to click the person with the analyzer while the person is running (which is a pain in the ass and you usually need to tell him to stop) and then when you manage to click that person, you put the analyzer back to where it was and then you heal the person. It's like if you were a spitter and the only way for you to spit acid is by using right click and then spit.

Oh no, you have to carry an analyzer with you. An entire pocket-sized item that you're forever burdened with.

Again, I agree, this is kinda neat, but it's pointless. Taking the analyzer out, using it, and putting it back takes a grand total of... 2 seconds. As for chasing down injured people, yeah, that's annoying. But the thing is, while you may be able to analyze their vitals with the long-range scanner, you still have to catch them anyways for treatment. You'll be chasing them down regardless. Also the spitter comparison is inaccurate. You're comparing a ranged ability to a 'close quarters' ability. If this were changed to a xeno suggestion, it'd be sorta like... "Allow an upgrade that lets runners use disarm intent at range, because it's annoying to have to chase people down."

Again, this IS kinda cool. But it isn't really even needed. The HUD is used to quickly identify who needs treatment. The analyzer is for a quick diagnosis as to what's wrong. The advanced scanner is a more in-depth scan that tells you everything you need to know. It's made that way for a reason, so you can't just have a magical "do-it-all" tool.

I like it, it's always been tedious to waste a precious pocket slot as a medic for a scanner. If it's doable and devs wanna bother, +1

Eh, I don't see why the medhud needs a buff or an extra tool, using the analyzer effectively is a rather important skill. I propose just allowing medhud's to be modified with the analyzer, or have an "Advanced Medhud" something research can make instead. I don't see why every medic needs a ranged examine super analyzer.

An Advanced Medihud sounds interesting as it should allow researchers to be able to make something other than grenades/resin items.

+1 for researchable Advanced MediHUD, but otherwise neutral on the normal MediHUD suggested buff. I would probably greatly appreciate this quality of life improvement, but then again I don't want to have my entire chat log filled with other useless info when I just want to analyze the damage of my patients. Most of you probably don't encounter my problem because you don't scan and treat multiple people at once, so log cluttering might not come as an issue when you play medic.

As mentioned by ZDashe I would love if research could make an advanced MediHUD with the changes suggested as it both adds this quality of life improvement, gives some more meaning to the R&D department, and addresses the issue that the MediHUD that medics start with isn't supposed to be some advanced device (so instead you get the MediHUD+)
