Another way to replace cloning.

Post by TeknoKot » 13 Apr 2016, 05:50

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

Introducing, the auto surgery pod!(whatever it was from the prometheus)

Well, since there's also time to time no doctors, this thing will deal with one marine at the time! Just let the medic set the things up and let it going. It'll do surgery over time and keep marine stable.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): I think it'll do well as an extra for the doctor's when they're busy. Let there be one or two of these pods. Even when there's an issue with griefers breaking bones, this can be a backup too.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Since cargo can order surgery kits, let's say the pod needs to be regeared with them after each surgery that is done(depending what items it used, unused can still be kept) and it has to have some time limit, like ten or fifteen minutes after each surgery done.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): No idea, maybe coders can come up with something?

How is this a way to replace coding? Fixing broken stuff wasn't a problem in the first place, we have doctors for that. There is nothing wrong with having cloning.

Hi, it's just a suggestion if cloning gets removed, a way to balance things around(cloner gets removed, allow players to treat bone fractures/infections easier then). Most rounds have zero doctors, unless highpops, but that's also rare, as some are just baldies playing first time and/or just some bad doctors around. Also, what's with the passive aggressiveness? I don't like the tone you're going for.

The game should be balanced in high pop ~60 when there will be doctors. Allowing squad medics to do surgery would be better imo

No. Allowing squad medics to do surgery would unbalance the game completely.

Auto-surgery pod can't be moved and there's only one of them in Sulaco. The way it balances from cloning? Marines can do surgeries on their own choice, but with a period of a time recharge at each+needing to keep filling new surgical equipment over and over.

I wouldn't be opposed to this. I made some safety sighs a while back that were straight out of the design team's notes. One of them was an auto-doc.
Needing to replace its chems and scalpels after each surgery makes it both balanced and lore friendly.

Uh. Yeah. -1. This..isn't a valid replacement for cloning at all. This is another one of those 'buff the defib by 10 minutes because clearly it'll be viable replacement' suggestions. ESPECIALLY if you have to replace the surgery tools EVERY time the pod is used. The other suggestion, or buffing defibs to 45 minutes - 1hour is really the only viable thing. And of course having them work AFTER their head is reattached too(Because you can bet your ass aliens would decap the shit out of people)

If you could read instead of jumping into a conclussion, I'd be glad to give an argument back.

This has nothing to do with defibrilators or reviving bodies. This thing instantly does surgery for a person to whatever they choose to. It balances out if cloning is removed, allowing players to traverse back to Sulaco if they are completely fucked and don't want to get out of the round. Defibrilators are rarely seen to revive players, because mostly people don't know how to revive a player. Again, this surgery pod is ONLY USED by marines who are literally slashed apart and in need of quick patching.

Last I checked this is a way to replace cloning, without actually having a way for marines to get back into the round. It's a automated surgery pod that, as stated, is not a viable replacement to cloning whatsoever. I did read, I didn't jump to conclusions. Defibs aren't used because 1. People are mostly stupid and 2. The timer on them being viable is ridiculous at best.

However. It still hasn't been stated how LONG it will take. Is it a 1 second process? Or will it take the entire round? Will there be a chance of failure during the process?

I don't think this is a really valid way or replacing cloning ? I think this should be titled "Way to do Surgery with no Doctors" (super imaginative, I know) or something like that. As someone who plays doctor a lot, by the time we general get patients to the medbay they are something like this :

"DOC, MY RIBS, MY RIBS ARE BROKEN DOC!"
or
"DOC! My vision is really blurry doc and my head hurts."
or
"(Marine points to occupied stasis bag) Doc! Ruptured lung!"
or
.........(because they are already fucking dead)

While this may cut down if there are incompetent, new, or no/ssd doctors, it doesn't replace cloning in any way. While it is true that we do lose patients on the operating table, and I have lost a few both due to my mistakes and the lack of treatment before they got to medbay, a lot of the people who need to be cloned are dead before they reach the Sulaco. As such this is NOT a valid way to bring them back without this idea changing quite a bit.

I know that Cloning will eventually go away and I am sad to see it go, but I don't want a system that doesn't address bringing already dead people back to be put in its place. I like the current idea though and would like to see it implemented, when the Sulaco revamp comes out, in the medbay. But to address the topic, the topic needs to either be changed to fit the idea you are presenting.

P.S. Sorry if I sound like an asshole.

Cloning isn't going away for a long time until we revamp the med system. And it's been discussed a lot. So locking for now.
