Definitive to-hit chances.

Post by Derpislav » 19 Apr 2016, 01:27

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Split alien castes into a few sub-groups that get a static % to miss when fired at.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Keeping T1-T2 hard to hit like they are now while no more
Image

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Suggested classification:
Very hard target - unlikely to hit at range:
  1. Larva
    Runner
    Drone
Hard target - tricky to hit at range:
  1. Sentinel
    Spitter
    Hunter
Moderate target - no bonuses, no penalties:
  1. Carrier
    Hivelord
    Praetorian
    Human
Easy target - bonus chance to hit:
  1. Boiler
    Ravager
    Crusher
    Queen
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): I have no idea where the accuracy is calculated - at the shooter, when the bullet passes something or what - but in Abby I trust.
Also, Boilers might need to get sliiiightly beefier because I would rather have them have more health than being harder targets.

I doubt a 10+ feet Praetorian is about as hard to hit as a human.
Hivelord's pretty big, too.

Seems nice though.

I'm not sure about the Praetorian (their in-lore versions were very agile and pretty sleek rather than our bulky ones), since that evolution has barely any benefits over the Spitter, but the builders should be hard to hit - to compensate for the fact they're nothing but builders and have no hopes of defending themselves.

Praetorians are pretty huge, even in lore. For example, the one in the 2010 AvP. I recall one was stated to be double the size of a normal xeno somewhere else, too.

They're still essentially slower spitters without vent crawl, though.

I like this. Need more thoughts to put into, but definitely could be good.

I'll agree whole heartedly with this. It made no sense to me that a tiny larva that wasn't even a foot large, is the same hit chance as a potentially 100 foot queen.

Side Note : As a Doctor, I struggle to knife a larvae, wonder why.

PS: Accuracy attachment, which might run out and I barely use.

But Humans should not be in the same category as praetorians and hivelords. Even hunters and drones are bigger than humans. Needs some reworking.

Please have faith. Xeno size is already taken into account during the calculation, as well as a huge pile of other modifiers.

Which is why it broke so badly at first.

But will a human do a quarduple backflip barrel roll to avoid being hit? An alien might.

The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a multistage aerobic capacity test that progressively gets more difficult as it continues. The 20 meter pacer test will begin in 30 seconds. Line up at the start. The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. On your mark, get ready, start.

+1. But also lets take range into account, not only size.

I like to imagine humans are in the same category as the sentinels and hunters in this suggestion.

+1, for the one round I played with the accuracy apparently "broken", I at least felt like I was a runner when ducking and dodging bullets. It's pretty sad when every shot is hitting you and three shots can kill. I remember times even having a bullet travel across the damn map while I was running and it happened to hit me about 10-15 tiles away killing me. That's when you know shits fucked up.

Thats more about bullet speed per-se. And that is why runners change trajectory of their movement.
