Shuttle door/layout rework.

Post by Dyne » 20 Apr 2016, 09:16

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Currently the dropship 1, aka Rasputin, aka Bird, has four usable doors (and four extra windows one can use as doors in a pitch).
Lets make it that the whole side of the shuttle can be opened, allowing mass embarkation and disembarcation.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
Obvious marine and alien benefits.

Details
(Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

[_____ ]
Where s are seats and [ and ] are doors, or door that rises.
Think advent reinforcement craft from XCOM2.

As a possible alternative- make one big opening in the back of the bird.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Rework the shuttle layout.

Only issue with this is that one entrance in rear makes nice choke point for aliens kill zone when boarding. Same goes for mass open sides. No hidaways for aliens to take safety from Supa marine grill defence. If the shuttle got open sides then defence building in the hanger would have to become banned again

Yes and no. Aliens themselves can build walls inside, and the sheer amount of possible exits will make the exit blocking less of an issue.
Currently marines need to block eight tiles+cockpit. In an event where they need to block 16+tiles- much more options for both sides to pour out fast.

So side doors are better for infantry disembarkation, and big rear door is better for APC disembarkation.

I am perfectly OK with both options to be integrated- side doors for marines, big back door for the APC.

Sounds very interesting, +1. Ill like to have Rasputin both with two entries and no windows (something like that double door on left plus four doors on back with possibility to use shutters separately on west and south)

I want to remind, that grills are not shoot-through now. So, balance already shifted again, we can think of new ideas now.

It doesnt matter if we see it in game(drunk mechanics for the win).
What matters is the dropship was designed to carry it.

Actually, yeah... We, well, let's say, we have APC, but none of our transports can carry it to surface. Is it supposed to drive inside of Sully?

Might be nice to have a new Rasp layout more fitting to carry the broken Apc. +1

+1

All dropships are outfitted to drop the APC- just because we don't have an operational one doesn't preclude us from that.

Beside that, over 80 players, it seems like we resort to laying on the floor of the Ras or Vin more and more. That isn't exactly fitting for a military outfit... Increased carrying capacity would not go unappreciated.
