Perma nested

Post by Durper » 20 Apr 2016, 15:15

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Make marines not able to break free from a nest.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
makes it easier for the aliens to guard, makes marines wan't to rescue their comrades faster.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
With checkerboard hives combined with the forever camping from an alien it's almost already impossible to break free from a nest,
I want it so you can still free someone from a nest so that rescue seems more important to the marines. Aliens will no longer have to babysit host, all caste who're suppose to do that can now focus on protecting the hive and supporting offensive caste if necessary.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
no idea

This topic has been discussed quite often and is well... a sensitive area. Let's face it, this is a buff to the xenos with no balancing for the marines. If this was implemented, 90% of marines rescued from nests would be SSD. No one wants to be completely helpless in a game, and most would just leave at that point.

I'll admit, we marines love turtling, but the chance of being permanested is more likely to promote said turtling instead of preventing it. For something like this to work, both sides need to make sacrifices.

Being perma nested while most marines are halfway across the entire map twiddling their thumbs at the FoB because they're too scared to go out. Plus if the marines completely bugger off and go back to Sulaco there's no chance you'll be able to get anywhere or have any chance to escape and maybe survive, at that point you're just screwed and would give up.

I'm iffy.

Literally the only way this could be implemented is if the ability to build resin doors was removed and it took a dedicated amount of time to nest someone.

You're talking about balance, right?

As someone who has escaped from the nest as a marine, killed a xeno on breaking free of a nest, and sat over marines in nests as a sentinel RPing their imminent demise, I think there's nothing wrong with nesting and it adds cool RP and gameplay moments to what is an otherwise boring period of time.

-1. Already insanely hard to escape from xeno nests, as OP pointed out. No need to make it harder and or completely game-ending, a majority of the alien efforts are never even impaired by marines trying to escape.

-1. Lmao. No. Not at all. Not ever. Seriously, this is by far the worst suggestion I've ever seen. It's right up there with removing cloning, really.

This. I'd plus one it with other gameplay changes though. Marines breaking out of nests constantly is pretty annoying. But it's far too easy to nest and hug marines as the counter point.

Right, it seems I suggested something that would only benefit the Xeno's in people's opinion, but I still stand firm on this suggestion, Monkeyfist
and //n are right for this to work their needs to be a some sort of mechanic to make Xeno's harder to nest marines, I still haven't figured out what but it has to be something simple.

I agree with cloning being removed, I'm getting tired of RP'ing being sad because my buddies got torn apart then 3 minutes later they're fine and dandy, and if the marines died too much that means either evac and call for help not clone more marines and do it all over again. And I've never heard of cloning technology in aliens. (this isn't on topic with my suggestion I know)

-1 no...just no. You do know how hard it is to get out of the room your put in right? keeping hosts in is like...the sentinels main job beside from guarding the hive, Which they are doing by protecting hosts. Even if a marine gets out you can get them back in the nest in no time and a marine can escape 1 or 2 times before bursting anyway. As we saw in that Sega game(the one on the Xbox 360 and stuff) winter(you) gets out of the nest on the wall somehow while the crusher goes off getting a hugger or something? its super hard to get out of a hive unless you practice it and get new-ish players guarding you.so as I said -1

It's just gonna further unbalance the game more than it already is.

Something similar was already implemented. It is not permanent, but frees up aliens from guarding them.
