Bring back emplacement machine guns?
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): A long time ago, buried somewhere in some old code is the heavy emplaced machine gun, something I severely enjoyed using back on the Nostromo. Unlike the turret, it must be manned by a marine and reloaded after a certain amount of shots. It's nothing more than a little idea I had while thinking back to the old days of the Nostromo (Never made a forum account then) and It seemed like a cool little addition that could be re-added if the code was moved and improved.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): A new tactic, with the introduction of AP rounds to Pulse rifles it gave me an idea. These guns could be a heavy alternative to a sentry and in place would be a marine standing guard. While most heavy hitting castes can take a fair amount, the introduction of a heavy (What I assumed .50 cal) machine gun thundering out heavy rounds could be a game changer that has to force actual tactical movements to find a way around the emplacement.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Instead of spawning with engineers it'd be something to order from cargo specifically, coming with some extra rounds for it. Of course, there'd be a setup time to prevent instant moving to recover a lost area. Could be destroyed by a charger, or a good amount of acid. It'd take the normal route of how the old gun acted, getting behind it with nothing in hands and clicking to fire.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Old code, new code, editing the old code to fit a newer style.

I could see this as a specialist weapon, and I like the idea of emplaced guns in FOBs.

Not even, make it another engineer item, but give engineers tokens too, so you can use it for either a sentry or a regular heavy mg.SpanMan wrote:I could see this as a specialist weapon, and I like the idea of emplaced guns in FOBs.

+1, especially the idea of being able to take either a sentry OR a MG (even if cargo can probably just order you 5 more)

+1 this would bring back memories for me, and would mean that someone needs to stay at the FoB, and help watch the man on the gun, making guarding an FoB with 3 people a reality again.

Re: Bring back emplacement machine guns?
What if engineers had a "Heavy weapons" token? Much like the specialists, you can either get a sentry crate (which is automated but does less damage or some other balance) or a manual HMG.

I'd make an edit to the post above, but the token idea is just filling the chat. I like the Token better than the cargo plan

Maybe like spec's coin system for engies: you insert a coin on engie's vending machine And you choose between a Autoturret or a HMGRabidgam3r wrote:+1, especially the idea of being able to take either a sentry OR a MG (even if cargo can probably just order you 5 more)

I remember back in ye olde days of the Nostromo and this thing was absolute cancer to deal with. It 2 shot tier 1s and killed tier 2s and 3s near instantly. It obviously wasn't fun to deal with as xenos and also wasn't fun to use as marines because you effectively turned the hallway into a point & click adventure

It never 2 shot tier 1 aliens, it critted runners with 3 shots and killed them with 4, and the firing speed was the same as the lmg saw (less than the smg and m41).Zilenan91 wrote:no -1

It's a pain to use it's manual control, because marines keep bumping into you, making you have to walk back and re-man it. +1coroneljones wrote:Loved the HMG
