A Way to Lessen the High Amounts of Friendly Fire

Post by The Respected Man » 26 Apr 2016, 14:55

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): It sucks to fear both aliens and marines, and so i thought of something.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Marines won't be their own worst enemy anymore.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): i have an idea to get rid of it.
It is thanks to the camera angle of the game that makes it so easy to hit fellow marines, if it was an fps, it would be very easy to predict where the bullets will hit but we are watching our character from a bird's eye view so it's easily difficult to see who is in the way, so i believe we should add a safety trigger, since us players are unreliable when it comes to gun control with thanks to the camera angle, let our controlled character judge, if we click to fire but our character finds that a marine is in the middle of his ironsights, he'll not pull the trigger, the rifle won't go off, but friendly fire can still occur but from the inaccuracy of the gun itself, such as from the spread of burst fire for example so friendly fire can truly be accidental.

As i said, FF will still happen but through accidental inaccuracy, if a marine is DIRECTLY in the way, trigger won't be pulled, if a bullet misses or spreads, that's where FF should realistically happen.

I hear you, but really the class you should go for is Specialist with "smartgun".
In fact, you should ask for smartguns rifle even if it the SMGs version.

My story with this bull is when I was wildfire shooting, a SL got in the way and got hit.
Guess what, they butcher Machete handful of time and shoot me with the then new FF3000 guns.
For fuck sake, TAKE IT LIKE A MAN. But I'm salty for other things, and DEALING WITH IT.

Um no. People who fuck up get friendly fired. Its a life-lesson. No one can be 100% smartgunners with the M41A. -1

Also, do you REALLY think everyday guns are smart enough to lock the trigger when you are firing just in case something is blocking the path? No. The ONLY gun that can get away with no friendly firing is the smartgun. The ONLY reason that the smartgun is called smart is because of rare and/or expensive circuitry.

No, the m41a does not fire at all with my suggestion when a marine is obstructing the way, smartguns however path around the marines and continues to the target.
Also, last time i was friendly fired i was in the same tile when an alien was a couple tiles away from me, a marine emptied his mag on me instead.
Being next to an alien isn't a fuckup.
EDIT: I also did not imply the guns lock up, i imply the character that player controls refuses to fire since from his perspective a marine is in the center of his line of fire.

If you haven't noticed, all marines are bloodthirsty fuckers and don't care WHO they kill, as long as they get a kill.

Sad thing is, many of the marine players are quite literally only here to shoot shit. If you get in their way, they won't stop shooting. In fact, as a xeno, it's easier for me to make marines shoot each other to death than it is to actually capture them if they're in a group.

This is something the marines will have to deal with and fix. And it'll be tough to do so, because such a large part of the marine playerbase just doesn't care. Maybe if there were actual standards that a player had to meet before being given a gun, this kind of thing wouldn't happen. But since I don't see that being added in anytime soon, it's up to the marine players.

I don't mind the FF. Competent marines working together hardly ever hit one another. Incompetent marines shooting wildly will FF. I usually watch carefully who's standing behind me, and if it's some baldie I never heard of, I usually try to move out of the way. So -1 I guess? You also have to consider that in a marine v marine situation, how can you really tell who is friendly and who is not? Bullets don't discriminate because you have to shoot other humans at some point. Never use a smart gun on a deathsquad, for example.

I agree, i was thinking of making a different post instead of nerfing how utterly easy it is to hit another marine instead expanding the "incompetent marines" rule to actual incompetent marines who can't shoot worth a xenomorph's ass, i was going to suggest that if all a certain marine is good for is shooting other marines, he should be prevented from marine roles till they learn to click, (Temporary job ban) but that would alienate noobies so i thought of this way, which is most realistic imo.
Zilenan91 wrote:Friendly fire happens so often because BYond is shit and projectiles are weird
EXACTLY, i had mentioned this, i wouldn't want a way to prevent FF if the system wasn't so clunky, it's hard to avoid being shot with this system, so i though of this idea as a very simple and straightforward solution.

the new projectile system is in, I've managed to dance around three marines shooting me as a human - but that's when they're shooting you in the front, hard to dodge it in a line of 15 marines. thing is, it's much easier to do it as the alien too.

The best we can do atm about FF is to restrict AP rounds to SLs, Specs, or give them to RO. A buff in armor against bullets doesn't sound that bad either. Then again in the end its RNGesus that decides most marine fates.

NOT IF MISTER WIGGLE STOP YOUR PLAN!
I hope it does not have to come to that, by the way, I was shot by the SL with a F2000 several time.

Giving it to the SL and Spec are terrible in part because they do not even have a use for them, hello? The current Spec and SL gun are more eyes savory, and they can access the AP round even the basic Marine.

Giving it to the RO does not really solve any problem, since you have to likely spend about 30 point for a dozen of AP round? That is RIDICULOUS.

AP or not, one AP Marine does not guarantee a Alien's death with the new Ballistic mechanic.

All I'm saying is "be careful what you wish for". For some reason I'm seeing a nerf.
A word of advise, GUNS do not fire by themselves (unless it is an Turret control via AI). But GUNS do get fire by incompetenct dick whit, fuck, ass hat.

If you were to put move the AP round to SL/Spec/RO, CAN WE GET FLAMETHROWER for each basic Marine? It is very useful fighting against lower tier aliens and possibly upcoming aliens.

Because there are some jackasses who just don't know how to get out of the way, especially when it comes to fighting aboard the Sulaco or other more confined spaces.

The most I've noticed of FF that couldn't've been prevented via wariness was two groups of Marines accidentally shooting each other from both open entrances of the Shuttle during a hangar defense, since their bullets went past the screen's length. But for the most part it's a matter of staying out of the way and minding your firing angles. If some dip in a firesuit wants to stand five feet in front of a chokepoint whilst a sniper is trying to line up a shot at the Boiler playing peek-a-boo, they deserve what they get.

Yeah i'm open to any solution to this problem, restricting AP rounds is a start. Same goes for more bullet resistance when it comes to bullet vs armor.

Another reason why we can not have nice things, since Marines like to shoot each other.
I've to say this, because I might drop Marines for another month, no crap.

You can currently switch to walk intent to drastically reduce incidents of friendly fire. I tell this to people every day and nobody does it, so if you get FF'd and you aren't walking I have no sympathy for you.
