Bring back the SAW (or just LMGs in general) as a specialist weapon
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): For pre-alpha players that enjoyed the SAW's stopping power. Personally, I think that this absolute babe of a machine gun should be revamped to fit the current code. Make it into a weapon for the lighter, more tactical specialist.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This will give specialists a less tanky firearm option that allows them to fight more on the front lines.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): The SAW can be the smartgun for the people that hate smartguns. Like in the old code, make it slower to fire but do more damage. Just like that, no need to carry powerpacks or a harness. Alternately, if you fancy the idea that we have enough specialist weapons, make it one of those cargo accessible weapons.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Make the SAW two handed to use and rework some of its ammo needs. Maybe update the sprite and soundfiles a bit?
This is just a quick thought I had, not much to it and I can understand that it might be difficult or not worthy to implement. I do miss my machine gun, though.

+1
I am in favor of more specialist choices, and this seems like something a specialist would use.

We've got this in the form of the M41AE2.
It's not really issued to anyone, but it shows up from time to time.
The old SAW from pre-alpha though? That puppy is staying dead.

The SAW By this point is severely outdated, and only fires one bullet at a time.
Plus you have a SMARTGUN which is 10x better and goes past marines if accidentally shot at them.

Point being that the updated SAW would function differently from the smartgun, more like a powerful and slow M41A with a much larger mag. More for a different kind of specialist playstyle.Tristan63 wrote:The SAW By this point is severely outdated, and only fires one bullet at a time.

But seriously, I used to love using the SAW in one hand and the shield in another.
However, it had it's purpose: to be a heavy weapon to the squad, now the much asked smartgun (which is superior in every aspect) is in the game and the SAW represent a memory of the past

-1 As a specialist weapon.
Considering the Specialist can choose Smart gun, which is the better version for an light machine gun.
I'll keep using AP rounds as a basic marines. Unless some thing happen to them.
If the M6 were to be brought back, it going to be Specialist as you said, but not that popular as it is semi auto and now two handed.
The M4a1 suit fine, even though the Ak 47 can beet any rifle any day, or can it? What if the M47 was it real name? Q>Q

M41AE2 can be easily bought from the WY Armat crate in requisitions. It is much better than the L6 ever was.

The marines can obtain them in fairly decent numbers if they're willing to put the points into it. There's also a single unit stowed in the secure armoryAbbysynth wrote:M41AE2 can be easily bought from the WY Armat crate in requisitions. It is much better than the L6 ever was.

Re: Bring back the SAW (or just LMGs in general) as a specialist weapon
We really need ways to get more points, after the -200 Phoron patch, but I think the old weapons should do it. Still, it would be meta for Aliens to outright melt the outdated weapon in favor of hindering the Marine at round start.
