Allow attacking from the ground.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
You're robusting the aliens and heroically leading your squad in pushing them back into the caves, when suddenly a lucky Praetorian spitball hits you in the leg. You go down long enough for that goddamn Carrier to introduce your face to some hugger action and drag you off, never to be seen again.
Something needs to be done about these types of situations. To that end, I propose a minor balance change: let marines attack while they're down. Now, I can see what you're about to say. "No, don't say that, letting marines shoot while they were just explicitly taken out of the fight for a few seconds is WAAAAY OP, man!" I happen to agree. Letting marines draw any type of firearm or projectile weapon while they are stunned is absolutely ridiculous. You know in the generic action movie where the hero gets bowled over, and there's a quick cut to his gun or other weapon flying off across the ground? And how after that happens, the hero pulls out his knife and stabs the belligerent in the leg? Well, with that in mind, here's what I propose: let marines pull the knife in their boot when they're on the ground and use it to attack something that's standing the next tile over in any direction. It can still be disarmed, and attack time with it will be slowed slightly. However, this lessens the emphasis on "stun-based combat" that everyone calls SS13 out for.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): This will give marines a practical reason to keep a knife in their boot as opposed to an easier to reach place like the pocket, and will allow the combat knife to see more action per game than, say, being used to clear weeds out of the nexus or in a last, desperate attempt to get out of a hive (see my signature). It will also prevent marines from being completely rekt by a single lucky shot.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): Simply let marines hold a knife on the ground IF AND ONLY IF it's stored in the boot. Nerf attack time, maybe damage a bit. Let aliens disarm marines that are on the ground. If you hardcore alien players still think this is OP, maybe make the marine not able to draw the knife if their arms are damaged past a specific point.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code something like "Marine Bolt Vanderhuge stabs upward at the Runner (111) from the ground!"

I don't see how a knife is going to help you when all it takes is one click with a facehugger in hand. Though this could be fun if a runner jumps you, probably op though in that case.

This would be kind of interesting. I would be all for this if we revamp the melee system some. Right now aliens rely on stuns to really do anything, and a knife won't save you from a face hugger as mentioned above.

LoL no please. Every marines will just lay down on top of each other and start shooting together. No more friendly fire and the alien can't get close 30+ marines stack firing bullets over and over.

I gotta say I was ready to -1 after reading the title but if it's just the bootknife then I think it could be cool. Not sure how hard it would be to code seeing as you auto-drop things when in the down position, but I'll still throw in my support.

They could make it stick to your hand, like the mag holster (can't remember the name)Edgelord wrote: Please read the post before commenting.

Re: Allow attacking from the ground.
neutral, because making anything other than a knife being used while on the ground will obviously make them xenos mad for the same reasons (mostly) that caused them raise hell against the magnastrap.
and making it a knife-only feature is kinda useless, since you'll be able to get two - maybe three lucky knife hits before you're stunned or disarmed, which won't change much.

This /IS/ a knife only suggestion so far, also I think it would be quite useful if your teammates are about, 2 hits and a couple of bullets would easily down a runner/hunter.Egorkor wrote:neutral, because making anything other than a knife being used while on the ground will obviously make them xenos mad for the same reasons (mostly) that caused them raise hell against the magnastrap.

yeah, I know it is a knife related one, but I honestly think that the thing like you've described will happen very rarely. as I said, still pretty neutral.

Though at this point I"m wondering about marines who can't walk but are knocked down. Would they be undraggable due to the ability to knife their captor?

Re: Allow attacking from the ground.
I like it, and I'll be honest it never made sense to me why when we get tripped by an alien and dragged and tripped and dragged repeat add infinium we couldn't stab at them as they pull us. Now I don't think this should apply to guns of course but definitely for knives
Also you shouldn't loose your knife if they knock you down while your already down unless they go for a disarm.

Unless this comes with some kind of buff for aliens to transport people safely, this is a terrible idea.
Moving humans is hard enough as it is with the restrictive as fuck shit in place regarding tackling, buckling and eating, if you also let them stab you all the way then you might as well just start the round with the Marines Win ogg.

Re: Allow attacking from the ground.
I listed several possible alien counters to the things you dislike. The knives can still be disarmed from the ground. Hell, I've never not disarmed a huggered marine every second that I was dragging him away, and every xeno that's taken me has done the same.Gandalf wrote:Unless this comes with some kind of buff for aliens to transport people safely, this is a terrible idea.

This mechanic would really only help a marine that got stunned by a cheap shot and still had his helmet intact. Said marine wouldn't be fucked over entirely by middle mouse click.

+1, possibility to use knife or pistol as well as cooking the nade (liek at the beginning of last Sega's CM) for glorious death looks quite balanced especially if its desperate try against T3 aluems

Re: Allow attacking from the ground.
I think if a marine takes damage on the ground or is tackled he/she should drop whatever they are holding.

That would still make what is already an unreasonably restricted task significantly harder, especially when you meet the inevitable marine with 5 knives tucked away in every slot.Monoo wrote: I listed several possible alien counters to the things you dislike. I'm not even opposed to the idea at its core, I just think that unless something changes then marine transporting is the last thing that needs to be made more difficult.
