Can't you make it so only the user hears the passive pings?

Yeah that be great but in the movies and other games they are loud and anyone can hear it.

That would be fine if it were just one tracker, but people tend to group up, even separate squads. That means several pings going off constantly if you have more than one person with a tracker in one place.

Perhaps, but it would be nice if the aliens could hear the scanner too. That way, they could take extra precaution to avoid the sensor by walking if they want to ambush the marines.

Wouldn't that be meta though? Think about it,with all the stations noises, creeks and groans, somehow this specific noice tells them that it's the marines tracking them and they somehow know that by slowly walking they can counteract this.

ohhh this will really add to the scare

Ok what if it only pings if a Spotted person is nearby. and the closer you are the louder it gets, like heres a situation, and there would be two sounds, one to represent just a tiny passive noise, Doesn't mean anything and it sounds like this bamp bamp bamp bamp and it is usually drowned out by the pinging noise and the other would be a pinging sound which represents how close a lifeform is

a group of Bravo squaddies are walking down a hallway
bamp ping....bamp.........ping.bamp....bamp...ping
Jeffrey: I'm picking up 1 moving lifeform
the group keeps walking down a hall
ping.bamp..ping..bamp.ping..bamp.ping
jeffrey: ok theres more than one and they're moving closer
pingbamp pingbamppingbamppingbampping
bob: Guys i'm getting scared lets go back to the sulaco!
jeffrey: No not know we have a mission
PINGbamp PINGbamp PINGbamp PING
jeffrey: its right next to us!
(a alien hunter comes out of the locker and everyone screams running away)
PINbampGPINGPINGbampPINGPINbampG the motion sensor goes as the hunters friends join in and chase the people

As cool as that would be, it would be monstrous to have so many audio files playing like that.

it would be really subtle thought. just a Slient ping and a louder PING and the bump sound would be so quiet that it could be drowned out quickly

Something interesting would be marking marines as a blue dot and xenos as a red dot.

No, the idea, was to not have iff, so that you don't know if it's marines or aliens till you see.

Or maybe "regonized" units be blue and unknown(counting survivors) units be red.

hmm, with the ping audio, would it be possible to have them run off a global tick clock, so that even if multible detectors are active nearby, they would play the sound at the same time, negating the pinging of bleeding ears problem? hmm, but global ticks are bigger scripts, take up more processing...
