FIX THE NESTS

Post by SirBlank » 12 May 2016, 21:54

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
The nests as they are now are extremely unfair for marines. Its become impossible to escape from nests as aliens normal playstyle is to camp nests, but now with the fucking cuffs for alien they camp nests, and never let you leave.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
The server might do better without this, or by making cuffs extremely easy to break out of as right now its just break free from nest then cuffs to get fucked over.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
It would work as now marines have a chance of escaping impending doom and balancing the game again as of right now aliens are extremely easy to play.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Make cuffs for aliens break in one go to actually give marines a chance to kill themselves or escape.

Might as well keep trying not like they can ignore a bunch of posts that agree as it unbalances the game making it better to be a alien then marine as the aliens seem to have the more fruitful advantage

It's hard as fuck to get marines to a nest as an alien. You want them to stay there, especially if the nesting area is undermanned and you need to go off and do something else. Yes, breaking out and escaping the hive as a marine is a glorious feeling, I know, but it shouldn't be a very often repeated experience. It should be an "if you get lucky" kind of thing, not a "got nested again, time to go on a solo yolo rampage for the fourth time" thing. Really, it's a positive incentive for xenos. Before the change you had a xeno looming over you annoyingly for the entire larva period, and now you get a little more time to yourself with less tackling and interference.

Right. They don't want you to kill yourself. Your role, from the moment you get dragged in there, is to make a baby xeno. Killing yourself won't cut it.

I understand this, but giving marines no chance of escape is unfair as you might as well be staff, or a alien

You still have a chance to escape on lots of occasions. I was there when you were being nested; the aliens at that point were retreating into the hive and badly needed new hosts, so they were watching everyone closely. Unfortunate timing on your part. The last time we were playing on the ice colony map, I freed myself, cuffs and all, and joined up with an attacking squad. The drones and queen watching me were busy fighting, and I was able to slip out. If you were in the same situation before the cuffing update, you still probably would have been tackled a bunch. In other words, don't worry much that the dynamics of nesting are different, because the circumstances that you can free yourself in are still mostly the same.

Like i said in another topic about the resin handcuffs, If you don't want to get nested and cuffed, be a good marine. Never go alone, follow orders, know when to retreat, don't go rambo and don't get captured.

Stating be a good marine is a shit response as even though marines can do all that they will most likely be captured if we have better aliens then marines

Actually I find 9/10 following orders is what gets you dead. That said, I'm all for removing resin handcuffs as they weren't needed and are perhaps the dumbest thing I've seen ever.

-1 for all the reasons already stated. Just be a good marine.

As an extremely new player, I have to say this is the most unexciting feature I've encountered so far. Of the many times I've been captured (Because apparently I like to catch the facehuggers and then get dragged away), I haven't even managed to get up for more than three seconds to even attempt to start freeing myself before someone who is just sitting there (These mother fuckers have the patience of a saint) tackles me back down and replants my ass back in the nest. Its extremely dull having to sit here and pray for the next X (however long it takes for a chestburster to kill you) amount of minutes that a squad of marines will show up and save me (which I have yet to experience). It only took me a few games to realize I'm better off just going to play something else for an hour while I wait for a new round to start.

Granted, I am extremely new and might be missing something that makes this less of a painful mechanic to experience because from what I've seen so far, you might as well take a nap otherwise your gonna be doing the equivalent of watching paint dry. Just an opinion.
