A quick question.
What weapon would be in the shield?
Is it really appropriate to have less of a deploy time when it has a shield thats massive?
Is it acid-proof?

Its probably not gonna be acid proof and the shield on it will probably make it take a bit longer.

It would have to have a shorter deploy time; that's half the damn point; it's a heavy assault option.

No the emplacement isn't acid proof.

Also bump.

Maybe have a coin like the specs for the engineers to choose which crate they wanted, an MG turret or a sentry?

Yeah, I was thinking of a coin/credit based approach as with Specialists.

Should just allow any gun to be mounted on a turret trough an attachment, whilst also allowing the .50 BMG to be manually held.

You do know that firing a .50 Cal is not a really safe idea, right?

Firing any kind of heavy machinegun via your own arms is a ticket to the hospital.
Sometimes, bravery comes from the most unlikely sources.

He could just mean holding it to carry and most likely not fire.
You'll probably be able to fire it anyway just you'll hurt yourself in the process.

Average marine can do that even with standard pistol.

HMG or Sentry turret? Damn, that won't be a tough question: you have competent marine in your squad, who you can trust HMG? Then take it, it will be more effective. No? Then it's a sentry.

Maybe HMGs not so lore-friendly, but they are awesome! And they are well-balanced in my opinion. Won't hurt.

Manual turrets sound fun but it'll probably end up being unused like alot of things.

Always nice to have the option though, rather like spec weapons in that respect.

I can see it being an amazing assault option with smartfire + faster deployment times and more powerful rounds than the sentry. It'll get used for sure, as it has some nice bonuses to compensate for the lack of automation.

The shield would most likely be bulletproof if its supposed to fit its role, so it would take longer to deploy/secure than a turret.
Bulletproof alloys weigh alot.

If anything it would be slower to drag (though that's not something I'd want to do as it would adversely impact its role as an assault option); the deployment time depends on the securing system which could be partly automated or mechanized.

Considering how awesome they were at pre-Alpha, they will be used A LOT by pairs of competent engies+standards.

It was a very different game back then though, hence the litany of changes to modernize its capabilities. I think it will have some serious utility but I am leery about the drag nerfs impacting its capability to be used on the frontlines as intended. Probably should have a faster or full drag speed vs the sentry (it's on rollers or some shit while undeployed).
