Stand-up Supression?

Post by Sarah_U. » 28 May 2016, 11:44

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Simply put, I'd like to suggest that marines standing up under fire have increased dodge chance for bullets, but move slower while under fire.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): The complaints from Friendly fire will lower and this will also increase the realism of the situation as a marine wouldn't simply jump up to stand when his comrades are firing over him. He'd more carefully watch around and try to slip away from their firing lane.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): A marine being tackled or screeched would be pushed down. Aliens trying to rush him/her would have the ability to do so, but when he stands if he's under fire he'll pass on walk mode for a second or two... Or simply be slower like if he was slightly crippled then he'd regain his speed to restart fighting.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Automatically put the marine on walk and use the already existing mechanism or implement a small system for it?
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

I'd like the ability to go prone and crawl personally, so bullets virtually always pass over you, explosives deal reduced damage (going to ground is a thing to minimize harm from explosives IRL), and enemy ranged attacks have reduced accuracy; on the flipside, melee attacks are much more accurate against you (and perhaps deal bonus damage).

While prone you can still shoot.

This is technically already in, you just need to set yourself to walk instead of run

Yea well, I'd like it you'd see the entirety of the post to understand where I'm getting at. If marines would be on 'Walk' for just a single move or second it'd allow them to quickly step out of the line of fire or let the other see it and stop firing.
Or at least, I'm suggesting some method other than manually walking be implemented for the sake of helping it up a little when there's 20 xenos around you and you really need to run.

I know about walk, but it's REALLY dangerous to even do it while being under fire. Increasing the stand-up dodging chance or something would literally fix half the friendly-fire and avoid someone standing in the same spot to receive more.

What you are suggesting sounds high-immpossible to implement TBH

Well I'm a programmer and all you could do is put a certain amount of conditions and an effect when people stand up. During the stand up code you would have a last function where as marines standing would have an increase (temporary) of 20% in their dodging and after the time set it would return to basic. Make it an effect so that it stays and can be re-used and it's done.

I'm REALLY NOT FAMILIAR with Byond and its programming, but at least this much should be possible as far as I'm aware. Just suggesting an idea, but I see your worries and I'm glad we're having this conversation to flourish my idea ^^

Old topic, not a lot of support.

I'm not clear on how this is supposed to work, nor do I see how standing still would make you harder to hit. Either way, this is denied.
