Commisars

Post by Desolane900 » 30 May 2016, 05:16

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): A job that is more fear inspiring than the xenos themselves. A job that will make Marines stop turtling and stop disregarding orders. You will serve the Commisar or you will serve on the firing lines.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It will give a reason for Marines to do their jobs and progress the round instead of sitting on the Sulaco and wasting time.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): A whitelisted job that gives a character a very distinguishable outfit anyone can see and say "Oh shit, time to straighten up.". It doesn't need to be called a Commisar exactly but atleast a job that would fit the way a Warhammer 40k Commisar is supposed to be.

The Commisar would get a gun that causes instacrit or death and armor that blocks bullets pretty good but sucks against melee attacks, like the opposite of riot gear. The OP gun would be the cause of a whitelisted position because the last thing we need is a griefer getting ahold of such technology.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): A bit of spriting and stat changing along with adding a new occupation and a certain office in a spare part of the Sulaco.

No sensible military organization would ever waste personnel like 40K does, and I definitely don't want to see a job that's all about killing friendlies for lolreasons.

-1, doesn't even fit the lore.

When the wind whips past your ears
Will you stand when the weight is upon you
Or will you go to your knees in fear?

We are AMERICA and not those filthy commies from the USSR that employ comissars.

We are even less the imperial guard, the USCM is smaller than a standart IG regiment.

You could make a pretty big list of things this server has that doesn't fit the lore. Don't even try that one.

Actually, it's a very solid point, don't be so quick to dismiss it. A lot of the things we have that "don't fit the lore", are quite within reason. A lot of it is us filling in the blanks to accommodate things not covered.

It is very clear the USCM was never intended to have Commissars. The US Military doesn't have Commissars. It's clearly just a way to inject Warhammer 40k (something I love very dearly) into the server. I don't really see how you can justify this ever fitting into the server.

We don't need some role with a "license to kill". The amount of player complains that spring from this role would be off the chart. Everyone executed would probably make a player report.

I honestly don't think people will really listen to commissars, and their ability to execute soldiers willy-nilly will just infuriate our playerbase.

The U.S. Military used to have a "kill deserters and traitors" thing until Court Martials became popular. Seeing as how CM has no Court Martial system and killing someone without a reason like getting shot at first is seen as griefing, I don't see another way to enforce cohesion among squads and discipline in the ranks.

If this was a thing, I'd quietly and stealthily kill him every round, first chance I got. Doesn't matter the role I'm in.

+1, seems like a good idea to get people's head in gear although it may take a bit of time to get really recognized as a 'commisar' as nobody can really take positions of power over the internet seriously.

Call of Duty: Finest Hour soviet campaing, anyone? ..

cowards and traitors, will be shot!

The only way i see this working is making an event, USCM vs the russians and they have comissars.

I think it would work if the player was under heavy scrutiny and had a giant mound of responsibility.

I love 40K (I build IG) but I also love the Aliens universe and the two don't mix. It's not even a Lore/Gameplay issue. It's not only lore breaking but would make for bad gameplay and an assload of complaints.

Make it an admin role? Dear God, that's even worse.

We'd get a thread on Reddit called, "Colonial Mins create role that allows them to LEGALLY grief marines they don't like with no reprocussions."
