Remove stealth from hunters.
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
I think hunters do not need stealth. It should be removed.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):
It will better balance the game, making it more enjoyable for all parties.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
Ok. I'm crying nerf but hear me out. Aliens are really bad ass. But they could never turn invisible, or near invisible. Besides that, they are already quite healthy (they can take some serious punishment, at least as much as a marine), are capable of regenerating health, and have no bones or vital organs to break (they do not get in any weaker as their health drops), they carry huggers for instant CC, can outrun marines (which is fine), the colony is by default black everywhere a flare isn't put down. Meaning even without invisibility, they are still basically invisible unless you're in the range of their OTHER CC, which is a tackle. Like, why do they even need invisible? They have entire map darkness to hide in, can outrun marines, or run nearly as fast, have a strong CC tackle, and carry/throw huggers and disable lights. I think they should play more like lightly armored, much faster ravagers. Near invisibility in a well lit area packing two face huggers and running fast enough to evade bullets into the safety of complete darkness where HP can regen on weeds in addition to being at least as tough (much tougher, actually, because again, there is no limb or organ damage for passing out on aliums, they are as effective at 1% HP as they are at 100% HP) is silly. Aliens don't have cloaking powers anyway. They skitter around in the dark. If an alium is going to cloak, I say make them do it in the huge map of shadow they get, not in open light. This is just my opinion. To that end, runners don't need cloaking either as they are basically road runner, yes with less HP, but so stupidly fast. The tradeoff should stop there, as even the little red guys can take some abuse. But that's another topic.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Remove stealth from hunters. They can road runner through shadows better than us and see in the dark/through solid objects. There shouldn't even be a mechanic that allows them to wade into the open and well lit areas like a predator with a cloaking device. Nothing about the lore or the strengths they have in gameplay seems indicative to me they should be able to stealth, but plan clever angles of attack and trade face hugger tosses with marines, or jump out at them from around corners we can't see around.

It might. But it's just an opinion I have. The community is free to differ. I won't argue the point. If my analysis here seems irrational or I've overlooked something key, I don't plan to make a fit of it. : pEgorkor wrote:heh boy this is gonna go south real fast.

Re: Remove stealth from hunters.
Hunters can cloak due to the lacking ability to allow xenos of all kinds to blend into their own resin. (see any hive scene ever)
It's I believe that ability translated into a game mechanic and is frankly my favourite thing as a xeno on this game.
I believe with all that the humans have at their disposal, a little bit of stealth is a wonderfuly balanced game play addition for xeno.
If you would suggest an alternative to this mechanic however, you may gain some head way.
Removing a unique ability and not replacing it is quite frankly, a bit mad.

Re: Remove stealth from hunters.
Hnn. Maybe make it so they can only cloak on resin? And marines have a lot at their disposal. But most never even get an opportunity to deck out a gun. : p(Charged barrels, for example), few weapons disable or seriously harm aliums. Even a magnum 44 takes about 3 successful rounds on a hunter to crit them. And 2 more to finish off (so guns that do less than that? Pulse rifle with how fast they run, friendly fire), gotta shoot a strafing hunter 7 times with a pulse rifle while avoiding FF against other marines? I just don't see how stealth makes them balanced in any way. Constricting it to resin spaces and making it consume no plasma for them would be cooler and more accurate.

It is well balanced now, you can play Alium Gear Solid, or fail miserably.

Flat out removing/restricting it? Hell no! That's the Hunters gimmick!
If you suggested a way for them to completely merge into resin structures like in the movie? Perhaps. But for now, you get a -1 from me.

Half of the time the hunters stealth is plain obvious, they need the right terrain to blend in
The other half dont even use the stealth

No tradeoffs, no buffs, no nerfs. Leave Cloaking the way it is. -1.

-1 Never gonna happen. Hunters as Hunters are supposed to blend in with surroundings and thats part of the game mechanic, maybe in the future it gets replaced but I doubt it.

-1 I am of the completely opposite opinion, I think hunter stealth not only needs to be buffed but applied to more castes. It's one of the few genuinely interesting abilities aliens have and it's hardly ever used.

90% of the hunter population fail at cloaking, and even so, they're really easy to spot. -1

-1 It's weak and not too useful, I only use hunter cloak on weeds as you'll blend in when you heal. You're easy to spot as a hunter even cloaked.

Re: Remove stealth from hunters.
Gameplay issues. What's the point of evolving into Hunter if you get no benefits from it. Runner get extreme speed. Hunter would get nothing but being a runner with no epic speed.
