Armour Integrated Squad Monitoring Console

Post by Surrealistik » 11 Jun 2016, 13:51

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):

To help the Squad Leader shepherd and lead his troops, the Squad Medic to zero in on those who need help, and give the rest of the squad the ability to find and consolidate/coordinate with each other, their armour gains a squad monitoring console which displays the status (conscious/unconscious; net health and damage taken of each type per the Crew Monitoring console), coordinates of, location, relative cardinal direction, and distance to each of his squad members.

Overwatch consoles would also feature this information where applicable.

Related and intended to be implemented in tandem with Squad Leader waypoints: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=7385

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Helps improve squad coordination and cohesion by giving Marines timely information about the disposition of their squad.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):

Per the Summary.

Note that this performs procs only when used as a verb. The verb could have a 1-3 second cooldown to prevent macrospam and overuse of server resources.

Further, if necessary for the sake of resource conservation, it could be restricted to Medics and SLs only.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):

Adaptation of Crew Monitoring Console and pinpointer code.

Could be neat.

For balancing purposes, you could create another version of marine armor that has the lamp removed.

As in a version where the integrated light is mutually exclusive with the squad monitoring? Honestly I don't think this would be such a substantive buff in terms of mechanical impact that you'd need to offset it.

i would say for balance reasons to only have it work within a certain amount of tiles, maybe 25 or 30. a decent range but if a marine is captured or is spread out too far from the group( 30 tiles is a really, really spread out squad) the squad leader and medic would have no ability to determine where they are with the meager sensor. If balance is needed, the sensor could be moved into the form of a
tiny or small handheld item, equivalent to a hand-anaylzer sized object.

But seriously, does uh, anyone know the way out?!

Again, I don't understand why this needs to be 'balanced' with such a drawback/limitation.

BOs can already determine distance and location if you're concerned about this being used to locate hives (not to mention Marines straight up screaming out the location).

That's not a thing in Aliens lore, and squad monitoring is done remotely. Denied.
