Specifically, the bridge is generally the area where:

• The Commander of the vessel resides
  The vessel is controlled

One of those is true, yes, but true + false = false.
Let's see this rough definition;

The primary mission of CIC is to provide the organized collection, processing, display, competent evaluation, and rapid dissemination of pertinent tactical information and intelligence to command and control stations.

What we have on the Sulaco is closer to a proper CIC (which, if you haven't googled it yet, stands for Combat Information Center), and should be called such, just for the sake of MUH REALISM.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
A simple change of name (area, doors, etc.) should do it.

My concern is that "CIC" is likely to complicate the game for new players. The bridge is a term that directly transfers over from vanilla. People don't have a hard time figuring out what it means upon hearing it for the first time

I understand your concern - however, the suggestion is mostly a nitpick regarding the proper area name. I'm not saying we should go around forcing people to call it 'CIC' - everybody is free to call the area whatever they want, or are used to.

I used to rename it to the CIC if I ever had to go in there as the CE, and no one seemed to mind. The term "CIC" has already become common knowledge anyway, as well as most rudimentary modern naval tactics. Anyone who has played any video game of the extremely popular naval strategy/operational/tactical genre OR watched any film/tv series involving space combat will know it. Using induction, we can reason that as everyone in this community is bound to have access to a computer, a large majority of it will also have access to the aforementioned recreation activities.

So, the deciding factor really shifts back to "how cool is it". And no one's forcing anyone to call it anything. Perhaps this will be one of those things included in the "list of misc. projects" if it gets through the gauntlet.

There'd probably be at least three kinds of hats being worn there. Or something.

Look, I don't know, but what I do know is I've never heard the bridge of a starship referred to as the "Combat Information Center", and it certainly can't be called the "Operations Room" (OR) for surgery reasons.

I think it's fine the way it is. Who knows, in the grim dark future maybe it'll end up being called the bridge anyways.

Yep, in Battlestar Galactica, where this room is clearly referred to as a Combat Information Center.



Furthermore, the CIC was INVENTED in a spaceship-related media;
The concept of a "Grand Fleet Operations" was used for the first time in Gray Lensman, by E.E. 'Doc' Smith.

Also, Star Trek is, indeed, navally accurate, at least in one aspect - the CIC on real life navy vessels was designed using Matt Jeffries' design.
Retroactive accuracy is the best accuracy.

That's because the bridge of a starship is not the "Combat Information Center".
The bridge is, - by definition - where the vessel is steered from.
The CIC /may/ contain the bridge, but not the other way around.

That's fairer. I can see where you're coming from. I'll always advocate High RP, personally, so this really is just my opinion on the matter.
