You sure they did say it isn't a bug?

Re: Recharging Vending Machines
Oh yeah its totally a bug, reason why I put "feature" in quotation marks since people keep saying it but like said its a code oversight, which would fall under the definition of a bug but I do believe apop stated in minichat when this started to become the meta for medical that this was a "feature" and he was trying to make it so you didn't need to have a screwdriver (even though medical starts off with a toolbox) to restock the nanomeds but couldn't figure it out (or something along those lines) but I might be horribly wrong. But at the current time this is a very known bug and it has sadly become a strategy to pop up all nanomeds at the start of the round (with no rp logic behind it...) which I really dislike but up to the mods or admins to state what is or not within the rules of the gameUnknownMurder wrote:You sure they did say it isn't a bug?

you can restock mags that way and it's been branded a feature.

Re: Recharging Vending Machines
People are telling me it's a feature. People are telling me it's a bug which I agree it would be a bug because you can't literally plop a broken SL Helmet into vending machine and get a fixed back.
I ain't going to contribute to this 'feature' without stance of a staff clearing it's a feature.

Re: Recharging Vending Machines
A 'feature' (in any form of quotes), is a bug that after seeing what it does and how it contributes, is deemed worthy of staying in its present form, unfixed, regardless of the original intentions behind a system.
This particular 'feature' has been around for a while, and serves more to the benefit of the crew than as a detriment. So unless someone higher up says other wise, this is a 'feature.'

Restocking mags and refilling them is a feature according to the notes. I don't know about the medical system though, probably also intended.

Re: Recharging Vending Machines
Really we need to have the RO able to access the SL vendors or have one in req to be able to fix SL helmets. Also having marines pick up empty mags to send back to the Sulaco for refilling would become a great thing to have. But that is more of a playerbase thing to encourage.

Still a thing, I feel like this is a feature, though.

Re: Recharging Vending Machines
It's not a 'feature' as a euphemism. It's working as intended, and makes as much sense as the chem dispensers do (use energy to synthesize chemicals). The ship uses energy/internal supplies to refill the dispensable items. You can't return cases of items, like pill bottles or belts, so there isn't really any way to exploit it that I know to get extra items. You are still limited to having the set amount at any given time, so if you throw them away, you lose them forever. Just like how ammo magazines are meant to be returned to be refilled.
There is no difference from the vendor making tricordrazine or a doctor making it; doctors should be making the more complicated chems, not wasting time on the basics. Blood is the *only* thing that could be disputed, but in the future, I don't see why synthetic blood wouldn't be a reasonable thing in military grade medical facility equipment.
Remember, we have autolathes, circuit printers, cloners, et cetera. USCM has the technology to create complex matter from raw materials.
I also want to point out that we nearly have the technology to do this sort of thing now in commercial settings, and we actually do in laboratory/prototype settings. We can use 3-d printers to build houses now, everything except 1) the plumbing, 2) I think they add some rebar still while printing to reinforced the printed wall materials. It takes about two days to print a house from scratch.
