Open Up Ice Colony Elevators

Summary: Remap the elevators so that they are much more open to exit when emerging underground.

Benefits: Elevators are a death trap for assaulting Marines, your all stuck inside a highly cramped room with a single two tile wide exit, all easily exposed to machinegun spit fire, Queen screechs, Crusher stomps and Crushers in general and Boiler attacks. A single Boiler spit can wipe out the entire assault force.

I've yet to see a successful Marine assault from a elevator, whereas Aliens have no problem due to them having a lot of exits to pick from.

The elevators need to be far more open, with room to exit in almost 360 degrees for anyone coming down.

Implementation: Remap the entry points to be far more open.

+1 a marine assault squad can get fucked by a single boiler,Crusher or queen...or any fucking xeno with a AOE attack

Negative, proper cade defences make it much more viable to assault out of, especially with the new shotgun update.

The reverse is also true, if xeno are in a box (Like the pod only with one way out) and you grenade inside, things die.

End of the day, it's skewed to marines if both sides use them, it's also a weirdly big lift as present as is

Xenos have no reason to use elevators most of the time due to them having multiple exit points, mainly the tunnels that open up to very distant tunnel exits.

Good luck shooting Aliens when they can spam fire down the hallway or a Crusher can stand still and tank everything.

First, if they're firing down a hallway, they're not firing into the lift, as no hallway allows direct fire into the lifts.
If you are talking about research, that is an incredibly wide entrance with multiple security gates and not much space to fire from off screen.

As for crushers, yes, they're pretty lethal in all situations, they seem to be everyones go to for "But aliens can just use this." When in fact only one in ten in the warrior caste goes Crusher over Ravager.

Xeno use lifts, xeno use pods, they use the tools needed for the job as do marines, it's just only the queen can use it and not many queens are leading a charge.

making the lift absurdly bigger is neither realistic, or a fixing solution to the proposed issues you suggest.

The only time I've witnessed Marines successfully use a elevator is when no Aliens are defending said elevator.

Unless the elevators are changed so that the area the Marines go into is initially unreachable by Aliens then I fail to see a way to fix the issue in a alternative fashion.

The Marines have no chance to spread out or even get a better angle. Aliens rule in close quarters combat where there's limited space to move and the elevator is a chockpoint that is unbreakable.

I wouldn't say it's impossible to defend the elevator. Just yesterday, there was a very successful marine major in which the elevator was heavily defended and the xenos were easily dispatched:

It just requires good coordination and defenses early on. Most of the time I don't see xenos even bother to go near that elevator foyer.
