Renovating Hypospray

Post by zskninoh » 28 Jul 2016, 04:53

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Allow users to see the capacity of a hypospray, as well as what chemicals are in it. Allow users to also "dump" the current reagent on the ground for ease of change. Allow users to set the transfer rate.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Easier time in medical.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): As a doc I often use hypos as an easy way to administer chems, in their current "tricord" only state it makes it a hassle to fumble with them.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Magical coding.

Actually, I was thinking of removing it...

It's good for when you're absolutely overwhelmed with patients since it contains more than an autoinjector I believe.

The first couple of times I played medic, I spent way longer than I should replacing the content of a hypospray with quick clot (each auto-injector contains only 1u of quickclot, so it took 30 of them to fill the hypospray)

Ind the end, hyposprays are just more of a hassle than they are worth. They don't fit in medical or combat medic belts. 30u of medicine doesn't last as far you'd think and they're a hassle to refill, while the only real benefit is that they're essentially a multi-use auto-injector. This makes them completely worthless to medical staff who can just stick a used auto-injector into a medivendor with the maintenance hatch open to recycle it into a fresh auto-injector.

I'd be fine with removing them really. They occupy an awkward middle ground between syringes and auto-injectors and any buff to their ease of use just risks making them a no-brainer replacement for the other two.

Care to elaborate the reason as to why?

Medics are already overburdened with gear and wonky mechanics, taking away one of their tools seems like an odd design choice.

I like hyposprays quite a bit, and think they have a lot to offer enterprising medics. I used to use them for hyperzining my squad, and still use them for quickly administering inaprov, tricord, bicardine and spaceacillin as a doctor. I like these changes a lot, but my main problem with hypos is that using a slot in your inventory to hold a 60u bottle for refilling a hypo is much less efficient than using a pill bottle. What if liquid bottles in med vendors were replaced with 10u cartridge packs for hyposprays? It would allow medics to quickly make patient specific med cocktails and administer them as needed.

Autoinjectors can hold up to 15u, so why not just make a way for medical staff to manufacturer autoinjectors in that case?

Hyposprays are the best thing ever. I always use them as doc, as I find they give greater dosage control than pills, and allow you to stretch your limited chems farther, and instantly inject, always a plus when you walk into the shuttle and see 3 people in crit. The 30u capacity is annoying, but it's enough to either stabilize 6 people, or spam one back to near-full health.

A "Dump contents" command would be nice to have, to allow hypos to be filled quicker.
