Predator System

Post by Logi99 » 12 Aug 2016, 23:01

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): I think when Predators are cloaking, if they run. They can be seeable. But if they stalk they can't even be seen. Not a bad idea?

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): It's fair enough, right?

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): It's stated that when a Predator rages or gets excited, they start to get easily noticable. When they're running sounds like they're excited. One motherfucker blood-thirsty bitches. How about you guys walk slow. You guys cloak too good. But like the Hunter [but better. Like Hunter Stalk would be Running Pred] Stalk would be more invisible. That u can't even see it.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Code? Icons?

I'm fine with making preds blend MUCH MORE when on a stop, but much less when running. Remains the same when walking.

This way it involves a lot more stealthy approaches and roleplay. Possibly tactics and diversions.
I love this idea, +1.
CM was obviously inspired by Starcraft: Ghost opening. At least when marines takes too long to deploy.

Well, this might be one of the best suggestions in a while. This is needed and there is a reason to why this works that you stated in your suggestion.

Give this a look Apophis!

The running speed starts slowly, but gets faster each minute after you hear this signal. [beep] A single lap should be completed each time you hear this sound. [ding] Remember to run in a straight line, and run as long as possible. The second time you fail to complete a lap before the sound, your test is over. The test will begin on the word start. Neutral. I have marines who pick me out even when they havn't encountered preds before, and that's when I'm standing still, so.

I shall stay Nuetrel as well, though I am new to the Pred community and The Hunt, cloaking is one of the best device, and ability a pred has. Being able to cloak run away from a group of marines without being noticed is quite hard enough, especially in a group of xenos, it make preds chance to escape a tad harder, from what I have observed of other pred conflict or situations I noticed. Not from personal experience but from observing from a ghost perspective of watching a pred. (Multiple different times seen such occurance). So enough said, Ima stand Nuetrel.

Thing is, if you stand neutral for this due to the ability of running away being severed, you're doing it wrong.
A predator is a slow and cunning hunter. He takes each step at a time and confront danger for honour. Cowardice isn't really rewarded (AT ALL)... Infact, it's mostly the opposite.

Doing such a thing would actually:
- Scare some players while he runs about.
- Make people be more involved into roleplaying with a predator that's forced to be slow when he walks.
- Give possibilities to stand still and creep on targets with minimal notice.

Stuff like that... When you gotta run for it or escape you should really think to yourself "Was I in the right place, and shouldn't I actually do my best to fight the odds" and that's a motivation towards it imo.

I believe I did word what I was trying to intend was wrong or the way I stated isn't what I meant, then again your point is quite valid. Interesting and something, I admire and like you pointing out. I was not trying to refer to cloak for coward acts, though was quite glad you cleared it up for explaining my error. As I did say, I am quite new to the pred community, sorry for my claim anyhow was a theory or stuff I observed only as a player. I shall keep note of this for future reference or to look back or try.

Have you ever tried to tail a marine that's always on "Gotta go fast" mode, on walk mode? not easy. you'll lose em.

Make it more noticeable, sure, but make the stationary cloak better. When more marines and aliens are killed for attacking a noticeable predator on sight, I'll read the salt posts with a smile. Neutral.

It's not a bad idea, but it will lead to more conflict, and make escaping from swarms of Aliens or Marines with AP rounds much harder, but result in a lot more people being removed from the round than it would normally. There are prices to pay for forcing Predators into a fight. Judging that people WANT the bloodbaths that this will create, go ahead!

Just don't say it's the predator's fault for killing you and your mates when you all shoot it on sight, where it would normally be hidden.

Neutral, this will make it almost impossible to track marines along with some other issues
Unless... its completely invisible on walk, and remains the same on run, the current cloak is already visible if you pay attention

Coming from a xeno player who has had to duel many a predator before, i can confirm that seeing a predator even now while standing still is nearly impossible.

The only way to see a predator, even with nightvision on, is to look for movement and try to stun, then proceed to alt-click all the tiles around where you believe they are. It's also very hard to click on a downed predator so you can shoot (by clicking on their tile) or slash.

Predator cloak is strong as is now, and it shouldn't be changed. You can do as is.

Neutral towards -1.

Guys I'm not saying you always have to walk. If you're in the dark running is okay but in the light u must stalk

Maybe make the cloaked sprite darker so it benefits in dark environment? Xenos would still see you, but it'd be better on weeds too. This way you balance everything out by making it more visible when running, but harder to see out of light / bright environment.
