All Hat Items count as Helmets
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): All Hat-like items that you can spawn with (Bandana, Headband, Cap, Headset) block 1 hugger before breaking.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): More options for marines to wear things. Very minimal effect on gameplay, if any.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): All items you can pick up as your starter gear (You know, bandanas and caps and such) can block 1 hugger, just like a normal marine helmet. They do not provide armor, but do provide protection against huggers.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): ... Effort.

Marines should be wearing helmets. They're designed to protect the head. A bandana, however. Is not.
I fail to see how a headset is going to stop a facehugger.

Point isn't for lore, it's for fun. I personally fail to see how helmet is going to protect your FACE.

Fun for the marines. Annoying for the aliens.killinkyle wrote:Point isn't for lore, it's for fun. I personally fail to see how helmet is going to protect your FACE.
The only reason the helmet protects the face is because SOMETHING is needed that can stop hugger-insta-kill
All I have to do is walk in with a headset+bandana combo and suddenly I can take 2 facehugger hits?
I mean let's just make sunglasses block 3 facehugger attacks because muh muhreen customs.
That, and the dev team will have to code in "broken headsets", "Broken berets" "broken bandanas"
And I can already imagine the shit storm that will arise from a broken headset.

Re: All Hat Items count as Helmets
It is assumed that the design of the helmet makes it too difficult for the hugger to attach properly, and in doing so merely crushes the helmet and falls off with it still in her grasp.
While I wouldn't mind more defenses against huggers, you have to consider logic when making a suggestion, and in this case, making it so ANY hat item can block a hugger is a tad excessive.
Imagine the salt from xenos when something as minor as a bandanna magically prevents a hugger from attaching properly. I know I'd be annoyed.

Re: All Hat Items count as Helmets
As much as I'd like to agree with you, it doesn't. In lore, the facehuggers have had no problem facehugging anything with a helmet. Even most closed helmets don't protect against it, only the Yautja mask and the Apesuit mask.Renomaki wrote:It is assumed that the design of the helmet makes it too difficult for the hugger to attach properly, and in doing so merely crushes the helmet and falls off with it still in her grasp.
We can't really change it unless we majorly buff marines in some area to compensate for everyone losing hugger protection.
Adding hugger protection to the current hats would be a nightmare. They'd basically be stored as "backup" helmets in large quantities.

Why not make them count as "Helmet" Sized? That way, you cant stash them in your backpack.SecretStamos (Joshuu) wrote: As much as I'd like to agree with you, it doesn't. Have fun with bullets to the back of the head, then. Helmets protect against bullets. Hats don't.killinkyle wrote: Why not make them count as "Helmet" Sized? That way, you cant stash them in your backpack.

I have faith that my fellow marines will not shoot me in the back of the head.
It's misguided faith, but faith none the less.

It is one thing to hope that marines won't shoot you.. But it is another to know when to keep out of a marine's way.killinkyle wrote:I have faith that my fellow marines will not shoot me in the back of the head.

A lot of friendly fire isn't so much because marines get careless with their aim as it is marines not paying attention to where they are going, running into bullets midflight while being distracted by xenos.
Combat awareness is key to avoiding friendly fire.

We've got an update coming in the not too distant future that will add incentive to non-helmet headgear.

Okay. They still won't be able to stop huggers, but they won't break.

This is one of the cases where I think realism trumps fun. I can accept helmets blocking huggers for balance, but caps? Berets?

Re: All Hat Items count as Helmets
We may change how the headgear functions in relation to huggers later, but right now there is no reason to change the dynamic.
