Mechs, and how to balance them

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Being able to fight aliens with mechs seems like a cool idea, but everyone starts complaining 'oh but the balance, how do we balance it, well, first of all, we will add a specific job titled: 'mech pilot', the mech pilot job can only have 2-3 slots max, now the counter to mechs would be crushers, possibly spitters n ravs too.
