Predator: Monkey Edition

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Code in ability for predators to jump on the trees. See "Predator" for more lore info.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): MAH IMMUHRSION!! This suggestion is made completely in favor and pleasure of predator players. (I'm not a predator player).

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): So. How this should work.

When predator comes close to jungle wall, right-click on it, he has "Climb tree" verb. "Climbing" takes 2-3 seconds. After that, he moves ONTOP of jungle wall. Stalker and choose prey like a real predator!
While on top of jungle wall:
  • Predator appears to marines and aliens, like if it had switched ON cloak. But without draining enery, just changing the sprite. RP-wise - difficult to see something high in trees, esspecially if you are not looking for it.
  • Predator has special verb, that he can use only while being "on a tree" - "Jump on a tree". Works like pounce, but you can pounce only on other Jungle wall tiles in range of 4-5 tiles. Pursuit never was so immersive!
  • Aliens with spits and marines with bullets can shoot at predator. If bullet hits the target, predator should "fall off" and appear on any side of jungle wall, except the side of shooter. It will should get small random leg brute.
  • Predator can't use plasma caster or any other weapons, while being "On a tree". No RP reasons, just balance.
  • Finally, third verb - "Jump off the tree". Jump from jungle wall at floor tile in 2 tiles range.
Would be good to bound both jump verbs to middle-click as Boltersam has suggested. Macros-like, maybe.

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): Quite big amount of coding, but for some things can be used existing code, pouncing, for jumps, for example.

I believe he means the jungle walls.
-1, because projectiles won't be able to hit him, because the jungle tile will block it, just like standing in a girder once built.

To be fair, he is also asking for the pred to not be able to use weapons while on a jungle block, and for bullets and xeno spit to make him fall off

+1. It's a balanced and interesting mechanic, and I suggest that it'd be bound to the middle mouse key to leap from tree to tree to ground.

Yeah, but bullets and xeno spit CAN'T HIT HIM when he's on a wall. Not a complaint, just gotta be solved, because as-is, anything on a wall can't be touched by projectiles.

Can't the devs use magic to make any bullet/spit that hits the wall has a 50% or so chance to knock the pred off?

The code needed to make it possible would be something along the lines of changing the Jungle Wall to a new state while a Predator is on it, and changing the code for that state to include the knockoff capability, then reverting it back to the original state when the Predator moves or is shot off.

But yes, it is possible to do so.

This could allow a greater form of movement for predators, allowing them to get to places and flank prey in ways one could only dream of.

I'd gladly support allowing preds to climb and walk through the abundance of jungle tiles.
