Icon Over Squad Leader's Head

Post by Dog » 20 Sep 2016, 00:18

Summary:

In the time of eventual chaos among the Marines during assaults and mixing of squads it can be a challenge to find your squad leader. I propose an icon over the head of the squad's leader that is similar to the icons above Revolutionaries in the Revolution game mode to solve this.

Benefits:

We've all been there. You mix up with another squad and you suddenly find yourself away from everyone else because you couldn't find your SL in that mess of Marines in time before they moved out. With a simple 'SL' icon above the lead's head this will bring a much needed stability boost for Command elements as squads won't be strung across the map rendering any orders given to them ending up being ineffective.

Details:

As stated above the icon would go over the lead's head with a color coded background matching the squad's color. I would even go as far as to suggest a preference button to remove the icon for those who wish for a much more immersive experience.

Implementation:

Simply put an icon over the Squad Leader's head. It shouldn't be too hard to code, but seeing as how I know almost nothing of coding I'm mostly talking out of my ass.

+20. Would be better if command could switch who has the icon in the situation of emergency SL changes.

My idea to that is to tie the icon to the SL's ID.

Make it like the Sec-Hud icon but always visible to marines.
I think it would be GREAT if you had a pinpointer that always pointed to your SL unless he was considered in the caves (using the same coding as OB to determine?)

This wouldn't work because marines don't listen to SLs anyway.

Don't worry, they'll just follow the colorful square thing like Moths to light.

Lol, exactly. But seriously, after SL loses his helmet in a fight, it's impossible to find him without checking every marine's name in your sight.

Grunts don't need recognition; medics and engineers have very destinguishable clothes, backpacks, uniform, helmet; Specs are carrying their elite gear... and then there are SLs, whose only difference from grunt is helmet. Helmet, most lost by piece of marines' equipment. Like, for real??

Yeah. I don't think adding some graphics to the clothing is a good idea because items can get lost very easily so that's why I proposed this.

Lets add a USCM banner-bag that way you can raise your squads morale on the field as SL.

+1
It's a simple change that will lead to more squad cohesion and respect for the chain of command. Also it can help out confused boots because all you have to say to them is follow the guy with the marker over his head.
