Marines Equipment and new specialist.

Post by xomega000x » 02 Feb 2015, 11:05

I think the Motion Detector Is a bit under-powered and It's range should be slightly increased?
Nobody really uses It, which Is sad because It's one of the most iconic techs. for the Marines...And It's kinda sad you can't use the MD whilst having your old M14A out,due to you having to hold it with both hands.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now being said about the MD, I'd like to make a suggestion about adding the "Heavy Marine" class? Where they have that big machine-gun that needs the special eye-piece, It would be a cool thing, and that "shipment" of special weapons should appear only after 0.5h into the game, or 1h, due to the fact the Aliens might become ravagers, praetorians and what-not. They should appear as crates in the Cargo-Bay, and a crate for each squad armory...

The picture is so true. Usualy.

I think it would be cool if you could attach the motion detector INSTEAD of the flashlight.

No. It must be colonial marine game. Attaching it makes the game too easy.

Also, what do you think of my Specialist Idea?

I would agree on the range increase, that would help. I personally wish the ping would still sound when its not out, but I don't know how lore accurate that is.

The range of the Motion Tracker, that can be done.

the Heavy Marine class, probably not. Maybe in conversion.

Well, It's your decision great leader Apop of the splintered skies of Demacia.

Though, I mean, you could just make the "smartgun marine", that being the heavy class.

By how many tiles do you think the range should be increased?

2-4 tiles. 7 tiles is a pretty pitiful range, I barely see any squad lead bring it with them after the craze for it.

EDIT: After thinking about it, I'd make it 20 tile range.

I like the idea of more range but I think marines should show up on the motion scanner. It would make it just that much more hectic.

We want Squad Leaders to utilize the Motion Scanner more. Besides, I don't think Marines showed up on the scanner in the movie.

I know both in the games AvP and A:CM, any movement showed on the trackers. If it was friendly or had the IFF tag on it, it would make no sound and have an X through the white blip. Otherwise, even things like a moving blanket or a waving chain would sound a 'false positive'.

It wouldn't make much sense for Marines to not show up on the scanners when things like rats in the movies did. Perhaps use a different symbol for marines. You could RP it as a chip implanted into their skin that identifies them differently from other objects.

mdom, no, In the movies they had some special stuff In their jumpsuits/armor, so that's why they didn't show up. Or their radio-piece.

Everything I've seen says that the Marines had IFF chips somewhere either in their armor or in their headsets. They WOULD show up on the motion trackers, but with a bright, white X through their blips and no ping. This way, fellow Marines could keep track of each other's movements and know that they are friendly.

Situational awareness is everything here.

Eh, right now the way it is (as of last night atleast) if the marine is wearing a full hardsuit, they show up on the tracker too, probably applies to different non-marine armors too.

According to the wiki They had tracker's in their armor, but they malfunctioned on occasion. In open country, they could detect motion out to a kilometer, but being ultrasound they could only penetrate walls and solid objects so far, so indoors they have a range of about 20 meters. As far as SS13 goes, I'd be comfortable with increasing their range up to 15-18 tiles. I don't know if it's possible to make them semi-direction, they are only supposed to accurately pinpoint stuff in the front 90 degree arc, everything beyong that to the 270 arcs being somewhat inaccurate or prone to false positives, and anything beyond those and behind the tracker just downright unreliable.
