Surgery Bot

Post by Crab_Spider » 24 Oct 2016, 11:34

Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary):
Research and Engineering can make a surgery bot that will perform surgery in any given area.

Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole):

Marines won't have to waste a maximum of 50 minutes in the medical lobby waiting for treatment they probably will not get. Doctors will have less of a load to deal with when doing their job. Xenomorphs will have more hosts to infect, and Marines will have more boots on the ground to keep up the pressure.

Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc):
The idea behind this is to allow Marines to get back in shape in as little time as possible at the significant risk of error (this varies from table to table. A surgery table has a 8% chance of failing, a roller bed has an 18% chance of failing, and all non-medical tables have a 39% chance of failing) If a marine gets a skull fracture, the surgery bot will work for 7 minutes to fix that fracture and scan the Marine for any kind of damage the surgery has created before printing a note of the scan. This isn't to say the surgery bot can't perform surgery through the entire round as it runs on 2 power cells (the first is for any task so it performs at 100% efficency, the second is a reserve battery that reduces performance of the bot, increases risk value, and decreases the time of the surgery). Not to mention it's somewhat lore friendly (Prometheus).

Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it):
Code and sprites.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. You are not Brett Kimple, and you never will be. You are not the reason why I regular MP.

I am John "Buckshot" Rhodes, the Tactical Snowflake Hunter

This is already being fixed in a different way in the rules update, plus that would make doctors nearly completely useless once the robot was created.
I'm stressing way too hard about what to put here, so I'm just gonna leave it blank.... or....

+1.

An automated surgery bot that takes significantly longer (but much less time than waiting for a Doctor to complete 3+ surgeries) to perform surgery than a Doctor would be perfectly fine; Doctors still have value in that they can churn out a patient in a small fraction of the time.

That said I don't like the idea exactly as presented.

Also if this is to be implemented, the surgery units/auto-docs should either be only buildable on the Sulaco, or not buildable at all, because travel time + human surgery will always be significantly longer than auto-doc surgery at the FOB.

We are currently rethinking research. I am locking this for now.
