This just encourages retarded names and snowflakeness. Naming a xeno "pebble" just makes me cringe to be honest.

Re: Xeno Roleplay Issues - Part 1: Names
It's about as cringey as some marines nicknames...
The fact of the matter is that Xenos need names. Unless you are fully willing to completely, knowingly remove a group of players constituting nearly a third of your player base from the community, Xenos NEED names. Obviously, how to do that is still a source of contention, but honestly some of the reasons as to why not to add some of these suggestions are just inane... Meme-y names? Really? As if Marines can't and don't already do that ad nauseum? That's why there's a rule for it. If you're worried about that, just enforce the rule. Duplicate bodies are, honestly, a non-issue- I'm not sure why they're taken as such a problem. Multiple identical bullet casings don't break the game, multiple identical bodies won't either. Lore wise? They're aliens. There's hundreds of them. Who cares? It's just another dead body. No one's going to look twice at that- especially if the names are removed from a Marines view, as was suggested at some point. If you do, that's honestly your own fault, not a failing in mechanics- chances are, if you're studying every xeno corpse you see, you're either a researcher (have fun with the idea of clone xenos) or doing something wrong. Respawning seems more difficult to manage IC/OOC, but it's honestly as simple as saying that the aliens only use the words as arbitrary identification and they aren't assigned to specific xenos- when one dies, the one that replaces it 'inherits' its name (this also ties into a lore reason as to why there are dead xenos with the same names!).

Re: Xeno Roleplay Issues - Part 1: Names
Lore or not, OOC xenos deserve recognition. Names are just a simple way to get it out there and allow them to participate more in the community.

As was mentionned before, the main issue apop has with names, is that Xenos do not have any individuality. However, I'd like to make this clear: It's the exact same purpose as giving a number to ayyliens, but is actually more useful for the queen and other xenos. It does not make them individuals, but is a more static replacement to the number system that gives Xeno players what they've been needing for so long.Snypehunter007 wrote:Btw, duplicate: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=8118

I realize what you are saying. Just asking you to move it to the oldest naming topic.Polkjm wrote:As was mentionned before, the main issue apop has with names, is that Xenos do not have any individuality. This one is different to the other threads. I go in detail about the IC explanation, the implementation, etc.Snypehunter007 wrote:I realize what you are saying. Just asking you to move it to the oldest naming topic.

Just because this topic has more discussion doesn't make it different. You can explain it on the other topic.Polkjm wrote:This one is different to the other threads. I go in detail about the IC explanation, the implementation, etc.

I thought of this pun
You are ALIENATING (HAAAA) 1/3 of the player base with not recognizing xeno's as players.

Re: Xeno Roleplay Issues - Part 1: Names
Indeed, my bad, but my suggestion is quite different because I suggest more strict rules that would make more sense ICly, and the implementation is totally different. It's a similar topic, but the suggestion itself isn't the same.Snypehunter007 wrote:The other topic was made on July 12.....yours was November 2.

Well I'm gonna go ahead and say something similar to what xenos have said to me. Why not play marine? If you want a name, be a marine. If you want to WIN, be a xeno.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to have a game where both sides have names and both sides can winInterroLouis wrote:Well I'm gonna go ahead and say something similar to what xenos have said to me. Why not play marine? If you want a name, be a marine. If you want to WIN, be a xeno.

Just going to point out that Butters suggestion is similar but not the same suggestion and as such isn't a duplicate.Snypehunter007 wrote:Btw, duplicate: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=8118
Yes they both want names for xenos but they go about it in different implementations which means they aren't the same idea, they are different.

The idea from the OP of this thread is different in the way of implementation compared to Butters, and due to that it's not the same idea.Snypehunter007 wrote:Yet the ideas from Butters topic has also been suggested here.
They have the same goal but different ways about getting to said goal.

It is the SAME topic with DIFFERENT versions of implementation, just combine the threads to see which is wanted more.TopHatPenguin wrote:The idea from the OP of this thread is different in the way of implementation compared to Butters, and due to that it's not the same idea.

Re: Xeno Roleplay Issues - Part 1: Names
Then its clearly not a duplicate if the implementation is different for the same idea, it's an alternate version of a suggestion with the same outcome. We should probably get back on track with the thread.Snypehunter007 wrote:It is the SAME topic with DIFFERENT versions of implementation, just combine the threads to see which is wanted more.

The implementation idea can be brought forth in the previous thread. This suggestion is the same as another and needs to be closed. You can move the implementation suggestion to the other thread.

Alright, it looks like we are going to close out the old thread and keep this one going. You may continue to post here.
I think I might have already posted my opinion here, but I don't remember so strong -1.

Re: Xeno Roleplay Issues - Part 1: Names
+1
This is a game where the classic horde of hive mind xenos murdering the small elite team of humans has been reversed.
Marines are huge in number whilst the Xeno are the small team that require some degree of team work and coordination to defeat the hostile forces that seem at times, endless, especially as new players can constantly join mid round.
So.
One would expect a small force fighting against a larger force to have some manner of identification.
Because coordination via numbers is a bitch and we all know, to prove a point consider changing every marine player into Standard marine 001, 002, 003 or SL001 etc along with having them look all the same to their class, only extinguishable from engineer to medic to spec.
Imagine how awful it would be.
Now you understand to a degree why this suggestion always arises.
Because it is an issue that needs addressed and we require to find a manner to do so.
Suggestion: Link naming rights to those that reach Elite+ within their class. They can choose a name as they evolve.
This will mean no favouritism from the queen in regards to saving slots for certain players.
This will mean that no matter what you play you can have a name that reflects the class and style of xeno you play whilst making yourself identifiable.
With subject naming rules there will be strict punishments to those who make a "Trump" drone or any other silly name.
These also means that there will still be the random horde of numbers of young fool hardy children in the fight and by the time a name is chosen, you're likely to have earned it.

I approve of whistles suggestion, I still want young fools to run and die in senseless masses, but I want to also remember the good ones who die, who deserve recognition.
