You failed to start surgery.

You failed to start surgery. Aim at the same organ blahblah. You failed to start surgery. Aim at the same organ blahblah. You failed to start surgery. Aim at the same organ blahblah. You failed to start surgery. Aim at the same organ blahblah.

The system put in place to stop the "pull a larva out through the foot" exploit keeps returning false positives, especially during hand surgery.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start surgery, get "you failed"
2. Try 30 more times
3. Ragequit, kill patient and clone

Workaround-
Drop the tool, pull the patient off bed. Walk at least 3 tiles away. Use another tool in your hand. Go back to surgery.

That'll stop it for that one surgery, but not sure what's ACTUALLY needed.

I'll add some debug verbs into the code. If it fails, post the body part you are targeting, which surgery, step and tool you used, along with the debug message from the chat.

I had just finished removing a larva from a patient, but in the process had somehow cracked his ribs (no idea how or why since he was under anesthesia). So I closed the chest cavity back up and tried to fix the fractured chest bones. I kept trying to re-apply bone glue and the bone setter to fix the bone fracture (hairline fracture), but every other attempt told me that I was trying to target the wrong body part despite me having being on target: chest the entire time. The other attempts that went through did not throw me any error messages but DID re-break the bones I was trying to fix. I crashed during a later round so I don't have the error messages saved since I didn't see this thread until after. I'll try to get you the actual chat box messages if I encounter this again.

As far as I remember the patient did not have much external brute damage, but it's a possibility. I have not run into any memorable error messages yet except for one case which I could not replicate. Maybe I'll run into more cases over the next few weeks.

This bug still exists, but for me it happens if you do surgery on 2 people instead of just 1, and this sometimes happens when using a laser scalpel on chest(or head i think) even on one patient

Yeah please don't shit on doctors, we get this bug every other surgery if we are really unlucky. It doesn't seem to have a trigger, at least one that I know about, because ive done every step right and done nothing but those steps yet I still get this shitty message.

Boop, got this bug as a doctor. It lasted for quite a time with multiple tools.

Then it suddenly fixed itself.

Can confirm, still exists, it triggers just randomly, on any of the steppes.

Just thought of something. This whole bug is caused by a feature thats supposed to stop powergamers from fixing multiple bodyparts up at once. But thing is there is also another one thats doing the same thing: a patient can only have one active surgery 'action' going on him at a time and that works perfectly. So I don't know why are we keeping that redundant anti-powergame feature in that is just causing a GAMEBREAKING bug.

Please fix this. My longest streak was failing to start surgery eight times in a row.

this happened to me just last night, and the only way to fix it is to shift around and hope that doing the surgery at a different angle gets it to comply.

Giving a little bump to this, was performing three surgeries, and each of them failed multiple times, longest streak was six or seven times in a row. Swapping active hands and adjusting limb target seemed to do the trick after a bit to get it to let me finish the surgeries. Sadly it took so long to close the patient up that they ended up dying from toxin due to wound infection. Managed to save them afterwards but this was incredibly difficult to get over.

What? I routinely conduct two-three different surgeries on a patient at once and this doesn't stop me at all. This triggers sometimes but walking away/ dropping the tool/ retrying lets me continue anyway so why is this in the game? If you were forced to do one surgery at a time then that would be boring as hell.

The most I ever did simultaneously was five: broken skull, missing foot, fractured ribs, fractured leg, shrapnel in the torso. Scalpel -> Everything, Retract -> Everything, Saw -> Torso, Retract -> Torso, Hemostat -> Torso/ Torso/ Foot, Retract -> Torso, Gel/Setter/Gel -> Torso/Leg/Head, Cautery -> Everything, Robolimb -> Foot

Forcing marines to sit through what might be a ten minute long surgery otherwise is just cruel.

By fixing multiple bodyparts at once I mean doing them EXACTLY THE SAME TIME. Not the scalpeling the chest, head, groin then doing hemostat chest, head, groin.

One doesn't do it because it no longer can be done due to the prevention thats causing the bug.
