Deflecting on exo-skeleton/anything really has a chance to fire bullet in a random direction
Summary (a quick, 2-3 sentence summary): Mainly for xenos but maybe add it to walls ect later on. Every time a bullet hits a xeno carapace and deflects off it has a chance to deflect in the opposite direction. Not straight back at them, but a smaller chance too. Just not deflecting backwards.
Benefits (How this will benefit the server and game as a whole): Jedi crushers, stops constant fire-ing at crushers and people actually trying to get around them, stops marines wasting their damn ammo.
Details (Description of how you think this would work, the benefits, etc): A marine fires at a alien. The shot has a chance to deflect off in the 120 degree arc from where it was shot from. A small chance of it happening of course, 20-30% but ricochets against metal happen all the time and frequently kill people.
Implementation (Optional, if you have an idea how to implement it): The bullet already continues past them after a xeno dodges it/misses, just tweak it so that it has a chance to repel backwards.

I'm imagining a group of clueless marines charging an AFK crusher and nailing themselves with deflected rifle rounds, and when the crusher returns there's just a few dead marines at his feet...

A mature hunter deflects the Anti-tank rocket with it's thick exo-skeleton.

You will never be as bad as the baldie who picked up a tactical shotgun while a hunter was pouncing on top of a CMO for 4 seconds, with his only response being to pace around before being decap'd by said hunter. To be honest, wouldn't the bullets get horribly dented after pinging off armor? They don't retain their shape after making an impact you know, I don't think it would be all that effective. But then again, I don't own a lotta guns.

Yes, the bullets would deform or shatter depending on composition. Plus the Colonial Marines love their steel jacked, explosive tipped timed fuse ammo, meaning that there would be very little besides a shower of tiny metal pieces after deflecting off a crusher.
But I can see deflection to the sides and diagonally behind the crusher being a mechanic, to represent said shower of metal pieces.

I mean, if you see how bullet proof armour works with steel plates, the shards can go through the wearers skull if the rubber coating is not there. Check out demolition ranch, he does interesting tests of the steel plated bullet proof armour on youtube.

Re: Deflecting on exo-skeleton/anything really has a chance to fire bullet in a random direction
Sure, but I don't know how it'll help crushers because this will just incentivize Marines to shoot at a crusher more; chance at shattering/deflecting the projectile into another nearby Xeno. And a bullet going back to its sender or close to the sender is really really really rare because you need a multiple ricochet scenario instead of a bullet just deciding to turn around and fuck a Marine up unless you have a cylindrical object like a propane tank which a crusher head isn't, physics wise.
And before you send the video of that .50 BMG ricocheting, most people agree it was a multiple ricochet scenario and the ammo used in a Marine rifle doesn't have enough energy & mass to do something that .50 did.

Never heard of it, Pulse and SMG's use differing ammo than normal present day marine bullets, and it would be a small chance.

"Lieutenant, what do those Pulse Rifles fire?"
"10 millimeter explosive-tip caseless. Standard light armor-piercing round, why?"
―Ripley and Lt. Gorman (from Aliens)
I don't think a small explosive round can explode and still defect, I'm just saying.
I do understand the crusher though, but should ignore sniper, ap, marksmen, and rockets of course.
Neutral on this

+1
Make every "ricochet" that happens be a pistol round, instead of the original round to reflect the reduction in damage. Not fun to get nailed by your OWN AP randomly...
Also, make AP/rockets immune to this.

Agreed with Jron, it would have reduced energy. AP might not be immune though, it would certainly stay more in shape than normal lead bullets, if steel cored.

-1. Needless buff and it doesn't even really make sense given the rounds are explosive tipped, and there wouldn't be anything left that could pen marine armour.

If people are mad about this 'needless buff' and not penetrating armour/breaking up, just have the shrapnel be pistol bullets or comparable in power, and trust your armour. See if RNGesus likes you and you don't get a piece of shrapnel in your eye/femoral artery/neck. There ARE holes in the armour, after all.Surrealistik wrote:-1. Actually going to -1 on this:
Now that i think about this its gonna make our already clunky bullet system even more complicated and silly: Don't forgot its gonna add on too lag.
Again bullet wise this still doesn't make any sense, the crusher is a tank, but not a gaint moving peice of metal. Both lore wise and in real life this doesnt happen.

So, is it possible? I am guessing so, as a dodge registers a hit and does not do damage, then continues on. Just have to change the direction

Re: Deflecting on exo-skeleton/anything really has a chance to fire bullet in a random direction
I would rather get rid of xeno deflection, and instead use an actual armor mechanic, but keep it for crushers only. But implementing something like this would lead to a lot of salt in CQC, where a bunch of marines would kill each other while maintaining perfect firing lanes. Denied, but maybe crushers will get something like this sometime in the future, if it can be balanced and not stupid.
